Terminal Objectives
By the end of this session students will be able to:
• Understand the features and anatomy of healthy periodontal tissues
• Demonstrate the ability to conduct comprehensive periodontal assessments, including BPE scoring, clinical examinations, probing, and radiographic evaluation. • Formulate accurate diagnoses of various periodontal diseases, differentiating between gingivitis, periodontitis, and other related conditions. • Develop individualized treatment plans that consider the severity of periodontal disease, patient needs, and preferences. • Provide an update of contemporary techniques for the detection, diagnosis and management of gingivitis and periodontal diseases • Execute effective non-surgical periodontal therapies, including scaling and root planing, patient education, and oral hygiene instruction. • Demonstrate competence in using manual scalers, curettes or ultrasonic scalers. • Establish and implement maintenance programs to support long-term periodontal health and prevent disease recurrence. • Demonstrate competence in managing periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic diseases and conditions affecting periodontal tissues • Communicate effectively with patients about their conditions, treatment options, and preventive care, fostering a supportive and informative environment.
