Mental health Genz

MORE AWARENESS
Mental health has been a hot topic of discussion since the early 2000s. Due to the rapid
technological and social development, Genz has been getting an open space to talk and
learn about different mental health aspects. They are very curious and eager to learn more
and more about their mental health. The increasing rate of research and development in
this field has also resulted in new and improved theories which have helped Genz
understand their mental health better. In this busy and chaotic life, it has become very
important for young adults and adolescents to manage and understand their emotions to be
independent and confident. Mental health awareness is thus rising more and more every
day. More and more people are learning about mental well-being.

EASIER ACCESS
Genz has the simultaneous advantage of growing up in an age where mental health
awareness is at its peak. The previous generations had to face stigmas around mental health
and its discussions. Genz is comparatively more open about discussing mental health issues.
Social media campaigns, public figures and new movements have raised even more
awareness of this unspoken but very significant issue. Mental health help is more easily
accessible to this generation too. Online therapy sessions educational content like videos
articles and apps, and hopefully magazines like this, have assisted them in understanding
and maintaining their mental well-being. Online therapy platforms have helped a lot,
especially during the COVID times.

SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCE

Social media is a great tool for connecting people and enhancing society but it also results in
problems like cyberbullying, social comparison and the ideas of how a perfect life should be.
Even though it is the most connected generation they have the highest cases of feelings of
loneliness. This results in depression and anxiety due to feelings of inadequacy. Academic
performance stress also leads to anxiety among adolescents. According to studies about
45% of Genz experience stress and anxiety disorders consistently. The pressure to excel
perfectly in the academic and professional world also adds to the stress. Thus encouraging
mindful use of social media and learning how it affects one’s mental health is also
important.

CREATING SAFE SPACES

Including mental health awareness in the school curriculum and teaching the students how
to manage their emotional well-being is a great step in achieving fewer mental disorders
and also recognizing the early signs and symptoms if and when they develop. Parents also
need to be aware and accepting of the mental health issues their children might be facing
due to the pressurized environment around them. Mental health education helps break
barriers and old notions around mental well-being. It also helps in normalising conversations
related to mental health and breaking the stereotypical norms. Talking more about the issue
makes people realise that everybody is facing mental health problems which makes them
feel safer to open up about their issues and makes it easier to seek help.
CREATIVE STRESS RELIEVING OPTIONS
Encouraging mindful use of social media and learning how it affects one’s mental health is
also important. Physical exercise is also proven to help in reducing stress. Giving more
importance to outdoor activities instead of just brawling on laptops should be made
important in schools and colleges to promote both physical and mental well-being.
Developing new hobbies and self-care can also help in relieving stress. Creative spaces
where one can express themselves in ways like music, art and dance are great ways to help
in the management of one’s stress.
