Mariano Que
He is the founder of Mercury Drug Corporation. After World War II, Mariano Que bought a
bottle of a miracle drug called Sulfathiazole and sold them per pill for an affordable price. He
then bought more medicine to sell after gaining profit and later on, started selling medicine in
other places using a pushcart. After many years, his business grew and Mercury Drug
Corporation was founded. A notable title he received is being the Father of Philippine Health
and Wellness Retailing by the Philippine Retailers Association in 2012.
Innovator
(Read after the definition of Innovator)
-This helps a company to produce new goods or services that appeal to its target audience.
For a business to adapt to new trends in its industry, it may continue to create innovative
products, services or updated brand development to stay relevant.
- Mariano Que is an innovator. He sold the miracle drug (Sulfathiazole) in pieces and at a low price
in order for it to be affordable. When he started selling a variety of medicine, he had an idea to sell
them using a pushcart. He used the pushcart to carry all the medicine he had while traveling in order
to go to places with people who needed treatment for their sickness. With this idea in motion, his
business reached more people and gained more customers. Soon he founded the Mercury Drug
Corporation.
Integrity
- Keeping your word to yourself and others makes you exactly the kind of entrepreneur people want
to do business with. It creates a sense of reliability and dependability that can set you apart from
competitors.
- Just like Mariano Que, he is a man of integrity. He continued to provide truly effective medicines of
good quality for those who needed them, the reason for people to flock to his business and fuel it to
become a larger company. For years now, the Mercury Drug Corporation is the leading trusted
medicine supplier nationwide.
So as you can see, having integrity can lead to increased loyalty from customers who appreciate
your honesty and transparency.
Resiliency
- Just like what I have mentioned earlier, Que started out as a sidewalk vendor selling medicine
during World War II. But Instead of being drowned by sadness after the tough time the WWII brought
to him, Mariano Que instead saw this as an opportunity to start a business. Medicine is of very
importance around this time. After the war, a lot of people got sick and this is where he started
selling the miracle drug that helped a lot of people and at the same time made him the entrepreneur
we know today.
However, Que's journey to success was not an easy one. Throughout the years, he continued to
face obstacles such as competition from larger pharmaceutical companies and economic downturns.
But through his determination and resilience, he was able to grow Mercury Drugstore into one of the
largest pharmacy chains in the Philippines.
