 Prologue Actor – (Getting more agitated) One of which I’m trying to perform
now if you would please be quiet for one minute!
Actor – (Very dramatically, Coughs…) Two households, both alike in

(Narrators appear from behind screen one at a time)
Actor – (Mumbling) Thanks a lot.. (Gets back into role again) From

Actor – Do you mind? I’m trying to do the prologue! Now where was I? everyone what happens at the end now! You’ll ruin the surprise.
Ah yes… from ancient grudge break to new mutiny, Where civil blood makes civil
hands unclean. 1 – What surprise, I like surprises!

1 – What’s he chattin’ about? 2 – Oh come on you can’t be that stupid!

Actor – He’s trying too, if he could get a word in between all these 2 – This is the play Romeo and Juliet

3 – He’s a writer from back in the day, William Shakespeare, very
famous, one of the best know writers in the country, wrote a lot of plays, back in 1 – Dunno, isn’t one proper posh, and the other one a bit well… you

(1, 4 & Capulet family lead half the audience in a cheer then exit)
3 – We will just be watching from over there (Waves -Exit)
3 – So that would make this side the Montague Family.
4 – (Looks around realises everyone else has gone and Actor is staring
2 – That’s Romeo’s Family come on Montagues let’s give them a at her looking annoyed) Ahh, yes ok, what they said, Bye!

Actor – Where were we? Ah yes.. Is now the two hours' traffic of our
(Montagues come out, 2,3 & Montagues lead other half of audience stage; The which if you with patient ears attend, What here shall miss, our toil

4 – Right so think I get it, in this city there are two families, The (Actor does a very over the top bow and leaves)
Montague’s and The Capulet’s and they don’t like each other

 Lady Capulet- Go get them dear Romeo – Benvolio, there is this really cool girl, Rosaline, I mean, she’s

(Lords and Ladies begin to fight) Song
(Prince Enters) Romeo

1 - So what’s going on? 4 - Well he invented over 1700 words and lots of the phrases we use
today were invented by Shakespeare, like break the ice, heart of gold, green

3 - Well, she’s only 13 and her mum was trying to get her to get 2 - Cool, well let’s get the party started then!

(All Exit, except Juliet and Nurse)

the front row and point at them)

Act 2 Scene 3 2 - Don’t be mean

(Enter Mercutio and Benvolio) 4 - The reason it’s a secret is because the Montagues and the Capulets
hate each other and would never allow them to marry
Benvolio – Mercutio, have you seen Romeo since last night party?
3 - So why is Friar Lawrence letting it happen then?
Mercutio – (Joking) He’s probably still in love with Rosaline
4 - Well he just wants peace in Verona and I think he’s hoping that if
(Romeo enters) the children get married it will force the two families to be nice to each other
 1 - I don’t think that’s going to happen Juliet – My Nurse told me to meet you here to be married

2 - Me either Friar Lawrence – Are you ready?

4 - But its got to be worth a try, like Juliet said earlier when she was on Romeo – ready
the balcony “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name
would smell as sweet” Juliet – Ready

1 - I literally have no clue what that means Friar Lawrence – Okay all done, you‘re married. You can now kiss the
bride.
4 - Well she’s basically saying that a name doesn’t mean anything, its
just what we call people and she loves Romeo because of who he is, not who his (Romeo and Juliet look at each other, then at Friar Lawrence, shaking
family are. their heads ‘No’)

1 - Well I think its lovely Friar Lawrence – OK fine, you can shake hands then.

2 - Yeah me too. (Romeo and Juliet look at each other again and decide to high five
instead, audience cheer and throw confetti as they all exit)
3 - Well we better get ready for the wedding

1 - What needs sorting?

4 - Well first you need to give out these flags for people to wave (give
flags to the children)

3 - And you guys can have some confetti to throw when they walk (Enter Benvolio and Mercutio. Tybalt enters from opposite side)

4 - And finally, when Friar Lawrence tells you, it’s important to give the

(Narrators join the audience to cue them in the right places)

Mercutio – (Wanting a fight) come on Romeo

Romeo – No. I have my reasons

(Enter Friar Lawrence, Romeo and Juliet)
 Benvolio – We should listen to Romeo

Mercutio – Fine I’ll fight him. Act 3 Scene 2

Tybalt – Bring it on

(Tybalt and Mercutio Fight) (Enter Romeo and Friar Lawrence)

Romeo – No! Romeo – Friar, I did a bad thing

(Tybalt stabs Mercutio) Friar Lawrence – Yeah, I heard, not too good of you, The prince says
you are banished from the kingdom.
Romeo – Mercutio!
Romeo – Noooooooo… I will never be able to see my Juliet again!
Mercutio – A Plague on both your houses
(Romeo collapses to the floor crying melodramatically, Nurse enters)
(Mercutio Dies)
Nurse – Friar have you seen Romeo?
Romeo – Nooooooooo, Mercutio! Aghhh… Tybalt, I’m really upset, I
mean REALLY upset. (Friar points to the ground)

Benvolio – Romeo, remember what you said about not fighting Nurse – Oh, yeah, pretty obvious and a bit pathetic. Hey lover boy,
Juliet is pretty upset.
Tybalt – Oh yeah!
Romeo – Nooooooo… (Romeo tries to stab himself but fails miserably,
Romeo – Yeah! Nurse takes the sword away)
(Romeo and Tybalt fight, Tybalt is killed) Friar Lawrence – Why don’t you go see Juliet and then leave town.
Benvolio – Romeo, away, be gone. Romeo – (Excited) Cool
(Romeo exits, Enter Prince, Lord and Lady Capulet and Lord and Lady (All Exit)

Prince – What in the world is happening here? Why are there dead
bodies on the ground all over MY streets? Huh? 1 - Woah! Lots of things seem to have happened really fast!

Benvolio – Well Tybalt killed Mercutio, then Romeo killed Tybalt 2 - You’re telling me, it’s all gone a little bit crazy!

Prince – Fine then Romeo is banished from Verona, and clean up this 3 - I wonder if it’s always like this in Verona?

4 - As long as the Montague’s and the Capulets keep fighting I guess it
(All Exit, Benvolio drags bodies off stage) will be
 1 - But Friar Lawrence was hoping that the wedding between Romeo Juliet – Oh Romeo
and Juliet would stop all of that
Romeo – Oh Juliet, It’s almost morning, and I must leave
4 - That’s the problem with secret weddings, no-one knows they have
happened, so how would Tybalt know that his cousin has married Romeo Juliet – Do you have to?

1 - That’s true and that’s why Romeo couldn’t tell Mercutio the reason Romeo – I must be gone and live or stay and die. And I really prefer
he didn’t want to fight, because he was trying to keep the marriage a secret the going and living thing

4 - Exactly! He didn’t want to fight Tybalt, but when he killed his best (Nurse Enters)
friend like that he just got angry and took revenge Nurse – Whoa dude, you’re still here, you better leave soon, and when

4 - I doubt it, the feud has been going on for centuries, the families (All exit but Juliet)

2 - So what happens now? (Friar Lawrence enters)
4 - Well Romeo has gone to find Juliet so he can say goodbye Friar Lawrence – You called?
3 - (Getting upset) I don’t know if I can watch this, it’s just too sad! Juliet – I want to stay with Romeo, what can I do?
(Narrators Exit) Friar Lawrence – No Problem, Just take this herbal cocktail. You will
look like you are dead, and when they take you to the morgue, your Romeo will
be there waiting. (Calling offstage) Friar John!

(Friar John Enters)

Friar John – Yes

it’s a special potion that just makes it seem like she’s dead but she’s actually in a Romeo – Just OK? But the day is beautiful

2 - Well let’s hope that Friar John gets to Romeo first then because if
he speaks to anyone else they might tell him that Juliet is dead, even though she (All Exit)
isn’t!

3 - That would be really bad luck if that happens!

Act 5 Scene 2
(Narrators Exit)

(Enter Friar John and Friar Lawrence)

Friar Lawrence – Hello Friar John, were you able to deliver the letter
to Romeo?

Friar John – Well I tried, but it just didn’t happen, so I got a burger and
fries instead, want one?
Act 5 Scene 1
 Friar Lawrence - What! That’s not good. Bad, very bad. Poor Juliet, Paris – My dear Romeo Montague, what are you doing here,
closed in a dead man’s tomb. I have to go and save them. disturbing a Capulet? I am putting you under arrest!

(All Exit) Romeo – This is a bad time Paris. Tempt not a desperate man

(Narrators enter) (They Fight Romeo kills Paris)

1 - Ooooh Nooooooo (like Romeo says it) Friar John didn’t give Romeo Romeo – O Juliet, how I love you so. Well here’s to you! (Drinks
the message poison) hmmmm, tastes like coke! Thus with a kiss I die (Romeo dies)

2 - Suddenly the plan has gone really, really wrong! (Enter Friar Lawrence)

3 - Romeo thinks that Juliet is dead for real Friar Lawrence – Oh shoot I am too late

2 - And he’s going to see her in her tomb (Juliet awakes)

1 - Worse than that he’s taken with him some poison to drink Juliet – Oh comfortable Friar, where is my lord?

4 - Real poison this time, not the fake stuff that Friar Lawrence makes Friar Lawrence – Yeah, well there was a slight problem with the plan
(points at the ground)
1 - Do you think he will get there in time to rescue them?
Juliet – Noooooooo!
2 - I don’t know, I hope so
Friar Lawrence – I hear people coming, let’s go.
4 - Well look, here comes Romeo now
(Friar Lawrence Exits)
1 - He looks soooo sad
Juliet – What’s here? Poison I see hath been his timeless end.
2 - This is sad, it’s a tragedy…………. Bummer, he left none for me (Noise outside) Then I’ll be brief. O happy dagger
(All Exit) (Romeo hands dagger to Juliet)

Juliet – Thank you, Oh happy dagger, this is thy sheath; there rest, and
Act 5 Scene 3 let me die.

(Juliet dies and falls on Romeo)

(Juliet is lying dead on the ground, enter Romeo) (Enter Prince, Lord Capulet, Lord Montague and Friar Lawrence)

Romeo – I will enter her tomb and kill myself next to my dear love Prince – What misadventure is so early up? Why are there more dead
Juliet bodies on MY street’s?!

(Enter Paris) Lord Capulet – My daughter is dead

 Lord Montague – My son too 4 – Exactly! (looking at 1) See, she isn’t that stupid after all! Like the
Nurse says in the prologue at the beginning ‘Doth with their Death bury their
Prince – I will investigate and find out what happened here parents strife’. Which means that even though Romeo and Juliet aren’t alive
Friar Lawrence – I think I might know anymore they stopped lots of other people from dying, which has to be a good
thing!
Prince – Tell us or die
3 – So it is a little bit sad but not really, really, sad.
Friar Lawrence – Whoa! OK, OK… you see she liked him, he liked her,
they got married … 2 – I feel a better now

Lord Capulet and Lord Montague – What!!! 1 – Good cause I didn’t want to listen to you crying all the way home!

Friar Lawrence – Anyway, they got married, Juliet faked dying, Romeo 2 – Don’t be mean!
didn’t know; that was the one thing that went wrong, and killed himself over her 3 – I haven’t seen any Shakespeare before but I enjoyed that, it was

because its good news for the city of Verona
