Uncountable Countable
Affirmative
There is a lot of bread. There are a lot of tomatoes.
Negative
There isn’t a lot of bread. There aren’t a lot of tomatoes.
Interrogative
How much bread is there? How many tomatoes are there?
A lot of, much and many are all expressions which mean "a large quantity".
3. We use many in negative sentences and questions. We use many with plural
countable nouns.
A little and a few are expressions which mean "a small quantity".
6. We use a little with uncountable nouns. A little means the same as not much.
7. We use a few with plural countable nouns. A few means the same as not
many.

1. We use would like or ’d like to say politely what we want, especially when making offers
and requests:
Can you order for Ellie? She’d like the Margarita pizza, please.
3. We use Do you like …? to ask about preferences in general. We don’t use Do you like
…? to make offers or requests.

Luis: Sarah! Steven! Thanks for working late tonight, guys. I’m going to order
dinner for you from City Table restaurant.
Steven: Wow, thanks, Luis!
Sarah: Yeah, thanks!
Luis: I emailed you a link to their online menu. Open it up and have a look. What
would you like?
Steven: I don’t even need to look. I love their sausage pizza. I’d like a small one.
Sarah: And I’d like a small pizza with peppers, please.
Luis: OK, great. The pizzas come with salads. What kind of dressing would you
like?
Sarah: I’ll have Italian dressing.
Steven: I’d like vinaigrette, please.
Luis: Great. Now, what would you like to drink? Some coffee, maybe?
Steven: That sounds good. I’ll have a coffee.
Luis: OK. How do you take it?
Steven: With cream and sugar.
Sarah: I’d like an iced tea with lemon, please.
Luis: Perfect. Have you looked at the desserts? They’re really good.
Sarah: Are they? Well, then, I’d like a slice of blueberry pie.
Luis: And how about you, Steven?
Steven: Hmm. I don’t usually eat dessert.
Luis: Are you sure? Remember, I’m paying.
Steven: Well, OK. I’ll have a piece of chocolate cake.
Luis: Good choice! That’s my favorite. OK, I’ll order everything online. The food
