The Lifestyle of Faith

Lesson 4

I. Living by Faith

A. Galatians 3:11 Ampl.

“…for the Scripture says, the man in right standing with God (the just, the
righteous) shall live by and out of faith.”

Live your whole life by faith – not just faith for your eternal salvation.

“Well, I am!” Are you sure?

B. Philippians 3:3 Ampl.

“For we (Christians) are the true circumcision, who worship God in spirit and by
the Spirit of God, and exult and glory and pride ourselves in Jesus Christ, and put
no confidence or dependence (on what we are) in the flesh and on outward
privileges and physical advantages and external appearances.”

Faith in your family name? Physical appearances? Personal wealth? Occupation?

Education – intellect? Contacts – who you know? Keep your faith in God alone!

C. Colossians 1:4 Ampl.

“For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, the leaning of your entire human
personality on Him in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom and
goodness)…”

Power = He has the ability to help us in everything – the power to perform.

Wisdom = He knows how to handle anything – to give us the right answer and to
show us the right way.

Goodness = His desire is always for your absolute good – that which is good,
acceptable, and perfect.

Live your whole life by faith – not just faith for salvation. Trust Him for every
single thing and every single situation; from the time you awake in the morning until
the time you fall asleep at night. Trust Him as you travel, trust Him in your jobs,
with your children, in your relationships, as you help others, trust Him to change you
into the image of Christ.

II. Faith Accesses Grace

A. We’re all included because of God’s grace. Every Christian is a benefactor of the
grace – gifts of God. Every Christian has the same grace privileges – the same
standing – the same access to God and His help; and it’s all by grace – you can’t ever
earn any of it and you don’t have to!

“God’s power has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness.”
2 Peter 1:3
B. 1 Corinthians 2:12 NAS
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God,
that we might know the things freely given to us by God.”

How are you going to know what you can trust God for, if you don’t know what’s
been “freely given?” Faith begins where the will of God is known – AND – God
reveals His will for you through His Word – SO – faith in God is faith in His Word.

God wants you to know the things that He’s freely given to you – born again
Christian!

Gifts – Jesus is God’s gift, eternal life, forgiveness of sins, a new creature, a clean
conscience, the ability to forgive others, God’s strength, love, joy, peace, wisdom,
direction, healing, hope for the future, etc. You don’t pay for these gifts of grace –
you access and enjoy them by faith!

III. Say what God says

Get into agreement with God and His Word – say what He says about you and your
situation.

A. 2 Corinthians 4:13 NIV

“It is written: I believed; therefore I have spoken. With that same spirit of faith we
also believe and therefore speak.”

Do we believe and speak what our physical senses tell us? Do we say what we think
and rely on our logic? Do we put our faith in our feelings? Our circumstances?
How about the opinions and theories of the ungodly?

No! We believe God’s Word! About What? Everything that pertains to life and
godliness – everything He’s revealed to us!

Side note [Jesus taught us that, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth
speaks.”] Matthew 12:34

We unconsciously speak what we believe and it can be surprising what faith we

sometimes have in the wrong things!

“I’m afraid that…” and fear gains a stronghold.

“I don’t feel that God has forgiven me…” and you wrap yourself in guilt and
condemnation. You fail to access the grace of forgiveness.

B. Hebrews 4:14 NIV

“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.”

KJV – “our profession” – of faith!

Profession – Vine’s N.T. Greek dictionary – homologia – “from the roots “same”
and “to speak”; in other words, to speak the same thing. Denotes confession by the
acknowledgement of the Truth… to declare openly by speaking out freely, such
confession being the effect of deep conviction of facts.”

Believe and say the same thing that God says, about everything! The Scripture
cannot be broken – John 10:35

God watches over His Word to perform it – Jeremiah 1:12

Speak the Words of God AND God will be in the words you speak! God is a God
of absolute Integrity.

Integrity = “the quality or state of being of sound moral principle; uprightness,

honesty, and sincerity.”

Antonym or Opposite is Duplicity = “contradictory doubleness of thought,

speech, or action; hypocritical, cunning or deception; double dealing.”

C. The devil will always try to get you to check into the wrong realm for your truth
reference point – the realm of feelings, the realm of the intellect, the realm of
circumstances. But, if you’ll get your mind off of the problem and onto the
Answer – God and His Word – you’ll stay in faith; that place of rest and
confidence. All fear will go, all doubt will go, and all frustration will go!

Speak the Word to yourself – affirm the truths of God’s Word.

Affirm = “to say positively; declare firmly; assert to be true.”

Refuse! to consider any other thought or reasoning that would contradict His
Word! As you continually affirm your confidence in God – in His Word – your
faith grows. God’s desire for us all is that we live our lives in Him – trusting at all
times in His power, His wisdom, His goodness, and His willingness to help us at all
times and in every situation.

John G. Lake – “Whatever contradicts the Truth of God’s Word we are to regard as
the devil’s lie, not because it may not be in itself a very real fact to our senses, but
because God has stated a greater fact before which the other must eventually yield.”
