What is AutoCAD?

AutoCAD is a software application developed by Autodesk that is widely used for

computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting. It allows users to create detailed 2D and 3D drawings
and models across various industries such as architecture, engineering, construction,
manufacturing, and product design.

AutoCAD is so important because it allows for highly accurate and detailed designs,
which is essential in fields like architecture, engineering, and construction. This precision helps
reduce errors and ensure that designs are executed as intended. The software automates many
aspects of the design process, which speeds up workflow and increases productivity. Features like
templates, reusable blocks, and automated dimensioning save time and effort. In addition to 2D
drafting, AutoCAD offers robust 3D modeling capabilities, allowing users to create realistic
visualizations of their designs. This is particularly useful for presentations, design reviews, and
client approvals. Therefore, AutoCAD is an important tool for us that enhances the design and
drafting process across various fields, making it an essential component of modern design and
engineering workflows.
AutoCAD has own command, below is the commonly used:
 LINE: Draws a straight line between two points.
 CIRCLE: Creates a circle by specifying its center point and radius.
 RECTANGLE: Draws a rectangle by specifying two diagonal corners.
 ARC: Draws an arc by specifying its start point, center, and end point.
 POLYLINE (PL): Creates a connected sequence of line segments or curves.
 MOVE (M): Moves objects from one location to another.
 COPY (CO): Creates a duplicate of selected objects.
 ROTATE (RO): Rotates objects around a base point.
 SCALE (SC): Resizes objects proportionally from a base point.
 TRIM (TR): Trims objects to meet the edges of other objects.
 EXTEND (EX): Extends objects to meet the edges of other objects.
 FILLET (F): Rounds or fillets the edges of two objects.
 CHAMFER (CHA): Bevels the edges of two intersecting objects.
 DIMLINEAR (DIM): Creates a linear dimension between two points.
 TEXT (T): Adds single-line text to a drawing.
 MTEXT (MT): Adds multi-line text to a drawing.
 LEADER: Creates a leader line with an annotation.
 OFFSET (O): Creates a parallel copy of an object at a specified distance.
 ARRAY (AR): Creates multiple copies of objects in a pattern (rectangular or polar).
 SPLINE: Draws a smooth curve through specified points.
 BREAK (BRK): Breaks an object into two parts.
 ZOOM (Z): Changes the magnification of the view.
 PAN: Moves the view without changing the zoom level.
 REGEN: Regenerates the display of the drawing to ensure it is up-to-date.
 LAYER (LA): Opens the Layer Properties Manager to manage layer settings.
 PROPERTIES (PR): Opens the Properties palette to modify object properties.
 SAVE (S): Saves the current drawing.
 OPEN (O): Opens an existing drawing file.
 UNDO (U): Reverses the last action.
 REDO (R): Reapplies an action that was undone.
These commands represent just a fraction of AutoCAD's capabilities. Mastery of
these and other commands allows users to create, modify, and manage complex
designs efficiently.
