RATIONALE

This proposal discusses the development of lettuce production utilizing the Kratky

method in Barangay Lapu-Lapu, Santa Cruz, Marinduque.. ,This project aims to improve the

accessibility of locally produced lettuce. This project offers precise nutrient control, space

efficiency, water conservation, reduced pesticide use, year-round harvesting, and is suitable for

small or urban farms. It maximizes production in limited space, uses less water than traditional

soil farming, reduces pest risk, and allows for continuous production regardless of external

weather conditions.

Because nutrients, water, and environmental conditions can be precisely controlled,

hydroponic lettuce grows more quickly and produces more than traditional soil-based farming.

This water-efficient device consumes up to 90% less water. Produce that has less soil is cleaner

and healthier since less pesticides are needed and there is a lower chance of soil-borne illnesses.

Hydroponics is perfect for urban farming since it uses less room and can be grown all year

round, regardless of the weather. It also has less of an impact on the environment because it

promotes local manufacturing,

In Barangay Lapu-Lapu, Santa Cruz, Marinduque, the supply of lettuce has been

traditionally met by a lot local producers. However, despite its limited presence in the market,

the demand for this essential vegetable is growing among local restaurant owners who recognize

its crucial role in the preparation of various cook. With a rising need for a stable source of

lettuce, the potential for a local producer to establish themselves as a reliable supplier is

promising.
using the Kratky method, it is important and helpful because it addresses the growing demand

for this vegetable in the local market. The Kratky method is an efficient and space-saving

approach to growing lettuce, allowing farmers to produce crops all year round with minimal

equipment and maintenance. By meeting the demand for lettuce in the municipality, local

production can reduce the dependency on external suppliers and support the growth of the local

economy." which lowers carbon emissions linked to transportation, land use, and soil

deterioration. Hydroponic lettuce is, all things considered, a reliable, high-quality, and

sustainable food source. Because it may be used in a variety of salads and dishes, lettuce is in

high demand in the Philippines. Region 12 consumed the most lettuce between 2015 and 2019,

according to statistics from the Philippine Statistics Authority. Considering that lettuce is

regarded as a high-value crop, 71.75% of the population was found to be above the poverty line

because of its consumption. The amount of lettuce consumed per person was 0.0093561,

0.0094697 in 2016, 0.0094836 in 2017, 0.009496 in 2018, and 0.0095078 in 2019. The

consumption of lettuce among Filipinos in Region 12 is clearly rising, as evidenced by the

region's rising per capita consumption.

The proponent will implement this enterprise for some reason that: high returns in a short

period of time; small space is enough to do in hydroponic lettuce production. The proponent

decided to implement this enterprise to fulfill the shortage of supply of lettuce in santa cuz

marindque.

The project hydroponic lettuce production will be conducted at Lapu-Lapu, Santa Cruz,

Marinduque. The project will be consisting of 450 heads of lettuce to be grown within 3 cycles,

each cycles consist 150 heads to be grown in 30-40 days.

II. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the production, the project will achieve the following:

 To produce 450 heads of lettuce in 3 cycle.

 Generate a net income of Php in 3 cycles.

 Attain % return on investment (ROI).

III. MARKETING ASPECT

A. MARKET DESCRIPTION

The proponent's neighborhood in Barangay Lapu-Lapu, local vendors, and the Santa Cruz
Marinduque public market will be the target clients. This target was chosen by the proponent
due to its proximity to the proponent's site location.

Marketing Strategies
1. Product Strategy

The good quality lettuce will be sold to the market, it will be fresh, the dried leaves will be
removed and the lettuce will not be removed in its soil medium to maintain its freshness and still
be marketed for a couple of days for the retailers who will buy the produced lettuce

2. A cup of harvested lettuce will be sold. Each cup will cost Php 35.00. Proponents will

give a free extra cup of lettuce to customers who purchase every 25 cups to boost the

sale, the proponent will offer a promo of 3 pcs of cup for 100php. This price is only an

estimate, based on the average retail price that is currently in the market.
3. The produce will be sold directly to the consumers, retailers, restaurants, and public

market in the municipality of the Santa Cruz, Marinduque. The proponent will deliver the

product to its consumer’s location, if the location of the customers is outside Lapu-Lapu,

the proponent will use the motorcycle as transportation to deliver the goods.

IV. TECHNICAL ASPECT

A. Project Description
1. Product Description

The Olmetie RZ is the best Batavia variety in the world of commercial growing.

Also known as summer crisp, this Batavia type is easy to grow, relatively tolerant of hot

weather, and harvestable from baby leaf to full size. Very crisp like romaine, but sweet

and juicy, without bitterness.

Objectives:

1. To produce and sell 300 cups of lettuce in a 3cycle period.

2. To supply local end users such as: local restaurants, and individuals of fresh lettuce.
3. To make kratky production method known more to the public.
4. For my fellow students, to use this proposal outline as another source of information
in the field of production.
