The moment of a force about a point is the product of the force and
the perpendicular distance of its line of action from the pivot.
The sum of the forces in any direction is equal to the sum of the forces
in the opposite direction (translational equilibrium).
The sum of the clockwise moments about any point is equal to the sum
of the anti-clockwise moments about that same point (rotational
equilibrium). This is the principle of moments.
