CLASS ORIENTATION

6. Biddle, magsasabi ng mga need sa prof, and sasabihan ng prof ng need nia for class

- Group the class into 5 (Un na ung groupings from reportings, lahat lahat)
- Incharge sa mga papasok na nakaunmute (magsasabi or magmmute)

I. Definition of Geology
Geology- the study of the earth, and other extraterrestrial bodies, its form and
composition and the processes it has undergone and is undergoing.

III. Branches of Geology

1. Physical Geology
- Examines the earth's rocks and minerals and seeks to understand the processes
that operate beneath or on its surface
2. Historical Geology
- The study of the origin and evolution of the Earth through time
PHYSICAL GEOLOGY

- minerals and bato,
- Relevant because as CE we need to know specific rocks in using to build roads,
etc

- Rocks, how they are fold
- Aaralin ung bato, ano ung bato, bakt may bato roon sa place

- Study of volcanoes
- Landforms from volcanic activity
4. Structural Geology
- Deals geologic structures
- rock deformations
- Faults

- Study of earthquakes
- Study of seismic wakes of the earth
- Dito nalaman yung mga layers ng earth (gumamit ng seismology)
6. Environmental geology
- Not famous sa Philippines
- Connection with Climate change
- application of geologic concepts to solve environmental issues
7. Engineering geology
- Applications of geology concepts to engineering projects
- Bataan power plant (hindi nag ooperate)
- HIndi pa rin pinapagana dahil nasa above ng fault line
- Pagpinagana magkakaroon ng mga damage
8. Mining Geology
- Study of mining resources through geology concepts
- CE is responsible for like paano tatapyasan ung mga bundok, paano magbuild ng
tunnel sa bundok para makapasok ang mga magmimina nang safe
- Sila ang magddesign para maging safe ang mining place
- CE also considers the bato (loose, matigas, malambot)
- Relevant ang geoology sa engineering concepts sa mining company

- Limestone ay nagfform sa ilalim ng tubig, maraming limestone sa rizal
- Conclusion: Ang Rizal ay tumaas or bumaba ung tubig

- Earth like bodies
- Mars, jupiter, saturn
- May bato raw sa mars na kamuka sa earth (isang planeta lang ba ang mars and
earth dati?) questions like that
HISTORICAL GEOLOGY
1. Paleontology
- Uses fossils to study earth's history
- May mga indicators, like organism para malaman kung nag eexist na yung bato
(nadeposit or nabuo)
2. Stratigraphy
- Focuses on the different layers of rocks
- Example: Si Rock Zylle, nung grade 1 siyaa mahilig manood ng tv, doraemon,
- Bili sha nang bili, ang rock layer niya ay puro doraemon.
- Nung grade 2, changed man, ang bagong merch niya ay nina undertaker, batista,
all about wwe, ang bagong rock layer nia ay wwe
- Nung grade 3, mamatay tao na siya, kulay pula na ang rock layer
- Malalaman mo ang mga pinagdaan ni zylle based sa rock layers niya
- Ang bato ay nadedeposit ng horizontally, kaya rock layers
3. Geochronology
- Time dating
- Absolute dating - nakukuha mo ung exact date, dahil gumagamit ka ng zircon
- Example: si rock zylle, may zircon siya sa katawan, tinest, through that nalaman
ang age (carbon dating)
- Relevant dating - not exact date
- Example: organism jvan, makikita siya sa grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 but we are not sure
sa exact date, relative (hindi mo alam pero may hunch na andon siya likely)
IV. EARLY SCHOOLS OF THOUGHT
1. CATASTROPHISM
- Hindi masagot ung mga gap, so nag infer nalang siya na may nangyaring catastrophe
- May connection ang catastrophism sa bible happenings
- EXAMPLE: Noah's ark, nagkaroon ng great flood
- Meron sa geology may evidence na nagkaroon ng great flood sa earth
2. UNIFORMITARIANISM
- Kung ano ang mangyayari ngayon, mangyayari pa rin sa future

- Nirebrand as “Actualism”
- Example: Si Vince ay may nililigawan, Si Erika,
- Nagtanong si Erika kay Vince, nakailang Ex kana, bakit kayo nagbreak, ilang body count
mo, nagcheat kaba, questions like that para malaman ni Erika kung ano ba si Vince
dati/sa pasrt niya
- Nagmmatter ang present, kaya nagtanong siya
- Important ang past
- Concept sa Actualism: Wala namang nagsasalitang bato noon, sabi nina Charles Lyell,
so ang mga nangyayari sa present, ito rin ung nangyayari sa past.
- Wala namang way para makausap ung rocks, so bale ung nangyayari ngayon yun
nalang din yung nangyayari noon.
