Statement of Purpose

My name is Amna Tareen, and I have a strong academic foundation in Accounting and Finance,
complemented by significant professional experience in the field. I hold an M.S. in Accounting & Finance
from the University of Central Punjab, an M.Com from the University of Management and Technology, and
a B.Com from Punjab University, Lahore. Having spent over six years working in various financial roles,
including my current position as a Financial Analyst at Bank Alfalah Ltd., I have developed a
comprehensive understanding of finance, accounting, and corporate governance. I am now eager to enhance
my academic and research capabilities through the MSc by Research in Accounting and Finance at the
University of Gloucestershire.

My academic journey has been marked by an emphasis on financial analysis and corporate reporting, as
reflected in my elective courses: Advanced Corporate Reporting, Internal Audit, Consolidated Financial
Statements, and Cost Accounting. These courses have provided me with a deep understanding of the
technical aspects of accounting, as well as the ability to critically assess financial statements and reports.
During my studies, I conducted in-depth financial analyses of prominent companies such as Lucky Cement,
Crescent Steel Mill, and ICI, using tools like ratio analysis, profitability assessments, and market
evaluations. These projects helped me understand the broader financial health of organizations and allowed
me to apply my theoretical knowledge to practical business challenges.

In my professional career, I have been fortunate to gain hands-on experience in various financial functions.
As a Financial Analyst at Bank Alfalah Ltd., I manage vendor payments, handle tax submissions to the
Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), monitor operational expenses, and prepare financial reports for senior
management. My role also involves detailed cost variance analysis, budgeting for capital expenditures, and
accruals management. These responsibilities have strengthened my analytical skills, attention to detail, and
ability to manage complex financial processes. Prior to this, I worked as an Accountant at Techno Media
Event Management Company, where I oversaw internal audits, managed tax returns, and ensured the
company’s financial operations ran smoothly.

This blend of academic knowledge and professional experience has given me a solid foundation in
accounting and finance. However, I believe that pursuing the MSc by Research in Accounting and Finance
at the University of Gloucestershire will allow me to further deepen my understanding of advanced financial
concepts, particularly in areas such as financial reporting, risk management, and corporate governance. The
University of Gloucestershire’s commitment to research excellence, combined with its supportive learning
environment, makes it the ideal place for me to refine my research skills and contribute to the field of
accounting and finance.

I am particularly interested in exploring research topics related to corporate financial management, taxation
policies, and financial risk analysis. My current role has sparked a keen interest in how businesses navigate
complex tax environments and manage financial risks, and I am eager to investigate these areas in greater
depth. The University of Gloucestershire’s research-led approach, combined with access to state-of-the-art
resources and an experienced faculty, will enable me to undertake high-quality research that addresses
current challenges in the accounting and finance industry.

In addition to the academic and research opportunities, I am excited about the chance to engage with a
diverse community of scholars at the University of Gloucestershire. I am confident that interacting with
peers from different backgrounds will provide valuable insights and broaden my understanding of global
financial practices. I am also eager to contribute to discussions on emerging trends in accounting and
finance, leveraging my own experiences to enrich the academic environment.

In the long term, I aspire to assume a leadership role in the finance sector, focusing on corporate financial
strategy and governance. I am also interested in contributing to policy development, particularly in the areas
of taxation and financial regulation. I believe that the MSc by Research in Accounting and Finance from the
University of Gloucestershire will equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve these goals,
allowing me to make a meaningful impact in the field.
Thank you for considering my application. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to join the University of
Gloucestershire and contribute to its vibrant academic community while advancing my knowledge and
career in accounting and finance.

Sincerely,
Amna Tareen
