In today’s corporate world, it’s essential to align employee’s values with that of the

organization’s mission for long-term employee satisfaction and labor retention. Amazon – one of

the largest global players illustrates this concept, revealing it as an ideal employer based as

embedded in its historical background, mission statement, and vision and company values.

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 and within a short span of time; it has become one

of the leading companies of the world. Originally beginning as an online bookstore, its services

extend to e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. It is a for-

profit company based in Seattle, Washington, earning high revenues across the globe (Amazon

Mission and Vision Statement, 2024).

Amazon’s mission statement is “to be Earth’s most customer-centric company,” while its

vision is “to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want

to buy online” (Amazon Mission and Vision Statement, 2024). These statements suggest that the

company values novelty and consumers: This is manifested in the company’s policies such as

pricing issues, the range of products, and the convenience in e-commerce. Furthermore, Amazon

is not only interested in becoming the safest workplace in the world but also the best company to

work for (Amazon Mission and Vision Statement, 2024).

In terms of customers, Amazon operates predominantly internationally, which makes it a

key player in both the e-Commerce and cloud solutions industries. It works across different

sectors, such as video streaming and online groceries. As far as the community relations are

concerned, Amazon participates in charitable works such as promoting small businesses and

environment conservation, further expanding its positive effects.

Amazon firmly supports the diversity and inclusion policy, with its employees belonging

to various ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds. It might be difficult to obtain exact information
on the diversity of some departments, but Amazon’s approach to cultivating a diverse and

welcoming workplace can be observed through programs that support equal opportunities

(Edison International DEI Report, 2022). In its diversity report, Amazon’s commitment to the

employment of people with different characteristics such as veterans and physically challenged

employees is highlighted.

In light of the information gathered, I would definitely apply for the position at Amazon

but with some specific conditions in mind. Overall, Amazon’s business values and goals match

my personal values, especially the focus on innovation and customer-centricity, as well as the

policy to provide equal opportunities in the workplace. There are numerous opportunities for

career advancement in the company, and based on its international presence and market

dominance across varied sectors, it presents a promising landscape for professional

enhancement. Additionally, it is comforting to know that Amazon is committed to the welfare of

its employees through its vision of wanting to become the world’s safest workplace and the best

employer by the year 2025.

However, while the mission and vision statements of Amazon are inspiring, there have

been consistent complaints regarding work-life imbalance, high performance pressure, and job

satisfaction in some areas of the company. There were also concerns over stress and physical

workload in some parts of Amazon, especially the fulfillment centers, which affects overall job

satisfaction in the long run. Thus, while I am interested in the company’s focus on diversity,

innovation, and worldwide leadership, I would have to research the particular work department

or position I would be considering to determine what best suits me. Therefore, for driven and

customer-oriented individuals, who value innovation and inclusion, Amazon is an organization

that may be worth applying to.
