LESSON EXEMPLAR TEMPLATE

LEARNING AREA/QUARTER/ GRADE LEVEL

I. CURRICULUM CONTENT, STANDARDS, AND LESSON COMPETENCIES

A. Content This section indicates the key concepts and skills that are covered in the quarter. This part is lifted from
Standards the MATATAG Curriculum Guide.

B. Performance This section describes the level of and/or evidence of performance expected to be exhibited by learners a
Standards end of the quarter. This part is lifted from the MATATAG Curriculum Guide.

C. Learning Culminating Outcome

Competencies At the end of the lesson, students will be able to _____________ (Artifact, Strong professional verb and
and Objectives context)

Learning Competency

1. Lesson Objective 1
2. Lesson Objective 2

This section indicates the target competencies for the quarter. The competencies are unpacked through
learning objectives which the lesson will address. Unpacking will depend on the Learning Area MATATAG
Curriculum Guide. Broader competencies with layers of complexity in terms of content and/or skill must b
unpacked. Competencies stated in very specific terms may not need further unpacking. Unpacked
competencies will be validated by assigned validators.

D. Content This section enumerates the key ideas or skills that the lesson will cover. Topics and subtopics are indicat
here.

E. Integration This section integrates appropriate integration of topics, themes, and/or advocacies. Topic integration
involves content areas. Themes and advocacies may include promotion of environmental literacy, gender
and development, peace education, global citizenship, and other relevant concerns. This section is not
required but highly encouraged.

II. LEARNING RESOURCES

• This section enumerates the resources used in the lesson. Entries must follow APA 7 TH edition citation style. Resources ma
include books, magazine articles, images, media texts, eResources, and DepEd LR portal resources. Proper citation unde
creative commons and/or covered by fair use of copyrighted materials is important.

B. Establishing This lesson component prepares learners for what is to come. This is
Lesson Purpose done through engagement activities, elicitation of lesson purpose, and
unlocking language necessary to facilitate learning. Each subsection is
described below.

1. Lesson Purpose
This sub-component aims to draw from learners why it is important to
learn the new lesson. This also intends to hook or motivate learners to
the new lesson. This can be done through asking questions or
presenting visual tools.
2. Unlocking Content Area Vocabulary
This sub-component is a form of learner support. Words and/or
phrases which will be used in discussing the concept or skill will be
unlocked. These may include content area vocabulary (general
academic words and/or domain specific words) and other important
words that will facilitate understanding of the lesson.

C. Developing and This lesson component focuses on developing and deepening the
Deepening learners’ understanding of the concept or skill which the lesson covers.
Understanding The process involves Explicitation, Worked Example, and Lesson Activity.
These steps attempt to capture the learning process that prompts
learners to invest effort in understanding the concepts or practicing the
skill. The process is iterative depending on what the learners know and
can do. Sub-topics may be covered one at a time ensuring that there is
progression and cohesion.
SUB-TOPIC 1: TOPIC HERE

1. Explicitation

This sub-component draws from the precious lesson components to

process learners’ initial understanding of a new concept or skill. This
involves situating the topic in context. Elicitation questions may be
asked

to have learners talk about the topic from where they are at in
terms of what they know and can do. This assists learners to
undertake new learning.

2. Worked Example

This sub-component builds on the previous one and involves learners’

deliberate effort to develop understanding of the topic. Learners hear
and talk about the topic and apply their knowledge, skill, or
understanding in guided practice. Learners may engage in
experiments, observe/examine modeling, and do “guided practice”
activities. Working on examples should be done one at a time. Errors
may be maximized by translating them into useful knowledge.
Elaboration of concept or skill may be directed by the observed
errors.

3. Lesson Activity

This sub-component provides learners with opportunities to work on

multiple examples that are varied and repetitive. The activities are
independent and extended practice towards deepening understanding
and mastery of skill application.
SUB-TOPIC 2: TOPIC HERE

1. Explicitation

2. Worked Example

3. Lesson Activity

D. Making This lesson component allows learners to write and/or talk about the
Generalizations concept or skill they have understood after practice activities. Learners
are also prompted to reflect on how they learned. There are two sub-
components which are described below. One or both of these can be
included in this part of the lesson.

4
PILOT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MATATAG K TO 10 CURRICULUM
1. Learners’ Takeaways
This sub-component guides learners in articulating their conceptual
understanding of the topic(s) covered. This can be in the form of a
question or prompt that can direct them in writing or talking about
what they have learned.
2. Reflection on Learning
This sub-component centers on metacognition. Learners are guided in
thinking about how they learned. Self-assessment and goal setting
may be included here.

IV. EVALUATING LEARNING: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND TEACHER’S REFLECTION NOTES TO TEACHERS

A. Evaluating This lesson component focuses on assessing learners’ attainment of the

Learning learning objectives in context of content understanding and skill
development. This involves assessment of performance and/or products
using various relevant assessment methods and tools. Giving of
Homework for extended deliberate practice is an optional sub-
component.

1. Formative Assessment
This lesson component is on assessing learner’s content understanding
and skill development. Activities involve formative assessment of
conceptual understanding, performance and/or product. Teachers may
use various appropriate formative assessment methods and tools
aligned to the lesson objectives.

5
