Water is flowing through a horizontal pipe of non uniform cross section. The speed of water is 30
cm/s at a place where pressure is 10 cm (of water). Calculate the speed of water of the other place
where pressure is half of that at the first place.

Whenever air ascends or descends temperature changes. As air descends it warms up because of the
above pressure compressing down on the molecules i.e. adiabatic heating (with no heating from
external source ). As the air rises the molecules spread over a greater volume and so cool down due

b) A ball is thrown from the top of a tower with initial velocity of 10 m/s at an angle 30° with
horizontal upward. If the ball strikes the ground at a distance of 17.3 m from the foot of
tower, find the height of the tower. (g = 10 m/s²)
OR
a) A block and a trolley system is shown in Fig. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the
trolley and the surface is 0.04. Mass of trolley = 20 kg; mass of block = 3 kg. Calculate the
acceleration of block and the tension in string. Take g = 10 m/s 2 and mass of string is
negligible.
b) Briefly explain how a vehicle is able to go round a level curved road. Determine the
maximum speed with which the vehicle can negotiate this curved track safely.
Q32) a) Derive the expression for excess pressure inside
(i) a liquid drop, (ii) a liquid bubble, (iii) an air bubble.
b) A liquid rises to a height of 7.0 cm in a capillary tube of radius 0.1 mm. The density of liquid
is 0.8 x 103 kg/m³. 3. If the angle of contact between the liquid and the surface of tube be
zero, calculate the surface tension of liquid. (g = 10 m/s²)
OR
a) State and derive equation of continuity.
b) Calculate the energy released, when one-thousand small drops of water, each of same radius
10-7 m, coalesce to form one large drop. Surface tension of water = 7 × 10-2 N/m.
Q. 33 a) Show that for small oscillations, the motion of a simple pendulum is simple harmonic. Derive

an expression for its time period.


b) A 5 kg collar is attached to a spring of spring constant 500 Nm. It slides without friction over
a horizontal rod. The collar is displaced from its equilibrium position by 10.0 cm and
released. Calculate (i) the period of oscillation, (ii) the maximum speed and (iii) the
maximum acceleration of the collar.
OR
a) Derive the expressions for the kinetic energy and potential energy of a simple oscillator.
Hence show that the total energy is conserved in SHM. Draw graphs for energy vs
displacement.
b) A spring having a spring constant 1200 Nm is mounted on a horizontal table as shown in Fig.
A mass of 3 kg is attached to the free end of the spring. The mass is then pulled sideways to a
distance of 2.0 cm and released. Determine (i) the frequency of oscillations, (ii) maximum
acceleration of the mass and (iii) maximum speed of the mass.
