Following are the questions that you have to prepare for the derivation test to be

held on 22/02/2024.
Attendance is compulsory. Incase of any unavoidable absenteeism a retest will
be provided.

1. Discuss the variation of fluid pressure with depth. Explain how Pascal’s
law will be affected in absence of gravity. (3)
2. Derive an expression for the terminal velocity of a small spherical body
falling through a viscous medium. (3)
3. Obtain the equation of continuity for the incompressible non-viscous
fluid having a steady flow through a pipe. (3)

Thermal properties of Matter:

2. Derive the expression for the work done during isothermal expansion of an
ideal gas. (3)
3. Derive the expression for the work done during adiabatic expansion of an
ideal gas. (3)

Oscillations:
1. Derive the expression for total energy of a particle executing simple
harmonic motion. Show its graphical representation. (4)
2. Derive the expression for time period of a simple pendulum. Also write the
expression for its frequency. (4)
