PLAYFUL HEART TAROT GUIDE BOOK INTRODUCTION

Welcome Tarot Friends, Kittens, Lovies and Dovies! So happy to see you here! Hope
you will find this Little Book of Tarot Ideas inspiring. Let’s get started! Let’s shake it up,
chop, chop!

HERE WE GO! SOME BASIC IDEAS

Asking a yes or no question is easy and fun but it leaves you with no choice of action
of your own. (Will this or that happen? Well, if you do something about it, it will! In
any moment you have million choices you can make. You are free to! Even if you are
not the “decision maker” in the matter, you still have a choice about WHAT YOU WILL
DO NEXT. And, you can never ever influence someone else’s choice anyway.)

Frame your question in a way that puts you IN CHARGE OF YOUR LIFE with options.
Instead of a yes/no question it is better to ask:
 Who/what can be helpful for me to achieve this?
 What action can I take right now to move me towards my desired goal?
 What do I need to know/do about this? What are the factors that are at play?
 Where would choice A/B lead me? What would this experience be like for me?
 How can I ....?
 What is the best way to...?

Besides being explicit about the issue, always specify a time frame (and place).
Remember, the more specific your question, the more specific the answer. Don’t
word your question by the seat of your pants. Put some thought into it. If you put in
the time to set up your question, your cards will reward you with a clear insight. YAY!

You can look up a spread that fits your question or write down your issue in detail,
highlight some key words and phrases and pull a card for each. Voila! You have a
custom spread!

While you read the cards, glance at the written question and make sure you frame
your reading in terms of the specific question you have asked.

Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle while focusing on your question. Pull a card when you get an
intuitive DING, DING, DING! (Listen for the custom sound your intuition makes in
your head.)

Play, free associate to the images. Don’t worry about “the meaning”. Don’t think:
OMG, it is a “tarot card!” and I don’t know the meaning! Sit with it, stay with it. SAY
ALOUD whatever comes up for your first. Don’t censor your thoughts in your head
before speaking. You will be surprised how accurate your very first intuitive hit can
be.

Practice lots. Mix and match ideas about the cards and establish a reference library
of your own meanings.

Every card can be viewed as some parts of you relating to your question. A card can
signify things going on inside of your mind, heart and body or stuff in your
environment.

For each card, you’ll find a short description of its basic meaning. This is followed by
a list of challenges each card could be revealing to you. Some readers interpret a card
as “negative” if it appears upside down. But, really, it’s just showing you its shadow
side. (Yup. There’s no light without a shadow SC) I refer to this aspect of the cards as
“in a pickle.” When you’re in a pickle, you’re as disoriented and mixed up as the
veggies in their salty vinegar base! Sure, it can be unpleasant! But pickles are CUTE!

So no worries! To read the less-than-friendly aspects of a card, first, notice that it has
something pickle-y or prickly to say. How can you tell? Well, is the card reversed?
That’s a clue. Or maybe your gut is telling you the basic meaning doesn’t make sense
right now.

The shadow aspects of any card are like a friend saying, “Hello?! Is this what you
really want? You can stop this right now! Or, you can do what you’re doing
differently!” Take this as a reminder that you can turn on your own heart-charm
power and get out of any fix! Pull another card to find out how ... or just study the
lesson of the previous card in the tarot sequence for another suggestion.

The following card descriptions are not “complete”. There are a million things to say
about each card. I am hoping that you will find this short guide useful.

sea. These bunny team members are bright eyed and bushy tailed. (Literally :) They

II THE HIGH PRIESTESS

You are the Oracle! You know where THE treasure is.

Now that you decided what it is that you want, you need to put in some work. You
need to go on a quest to claim your dream. Imagine you are the High Priestess. You
dive deep into the depths of the ocean to retrieve your treasure. Your heart is your
compass. Your desire for your grail (your goal) shows you the way thru the crashing
waves. This immense ocean can symbolize the subconscious mind. All your memories,
secrets, knowledge, wisdom, and your creative imagination lives here. It is vast, so
your treasure finding skills need to be up to snuff. The bottom line is this: you have to

IV THE EMPEROR

Who is your daddy? YOU are!

All the bounty the Empress’ gardens is producing, the Emperor puts to practical use.
(Chief Designer of All Practical Matters, Master rule maker, mover, and shaker). He
turns all the fruit into marketable products. He organizes, protects, advises, looks
after everything. He is solid, reasonable, supportive and rational. He is the masculine
productive principle in action. Be mindful of the armor he wears under his cashmere
sweater tho. The Emperor is strong, fair, and all his actions flow from love. When he
shows up, ask yourself if you are the Emperor in your own life. Are you holding the
remote Honey Bun!? Are you setting your day up so you can be productive and brave?
Are you creating a structure that supports your goals? Define exactly what it would
take, and then do it. Stay motivated. Write your own rules and then stick to them

• Everything that is the opposite of objective/fair play: prejudice, corruption,
personal greed, resentment, blame, not taking responsibility for your actions.

orchard?!

XII THE HANGED MAN

Reverse your attitude in solitude. Change your mind (about yourself).

Super handsome Mr. Morning Glory Bud is hanging out, taking pleasure in kicking
back. The sunlight coaxed his fellow Bud Cubs to open and blossom already, but what
is the rush? He has his noise canceling bud-hat on, so he cannot hear the others’
chatter that would most likely scatter his focus. Plus, it feels so cozy to be in the
cocoon of the bud. You too can take some time out to mull over your core beliefs you
hold to be true. Meditate, chill, visualize your best case scenario, believe you are
sumptuous, wondrous, luscious. Consider some new perspectives, uproot habitual
ways of thinking and old assumptions. You might not have all the answers right this
minute and that is OK. Change your point of reference. Practice empathy, stop talking
and just listen. Try something new, something you have never done before. Yoga
inversions anyone?

The Hanged Man In a Pickle

• You feel bound and uncomfortable, not at all at peace, struggling to free
yourself from the grip of the shackles that feel suffocating. The more you try to
use raw force to get out, the worse it will get. Turn your assumptions upside
down for a sec and see if you get a new insight. Put yourself in their shoe for a
moment, OK?
• You got your panties up in a bunch?! Relax, it will be fine. Your reaction is out of
proportion.

XIII DEATH
 Goodbye caterpillar, hello butterfly!

You know the cliche metaphor about how the chrysalis metamorphoses into a
gorgeous butterfly? The caterpillar that lives attached to a branch, feeds on leaves,
changes into the butterfly that flies and lives only on flower nectar. Think that thru
Kittens! Do you think that such transformation happens double quick, lickety-split?
Nope. At the right time, the caterpillar will slowly disintegrate itself via enzymes.
Then, some remaining core stem cells will start multiplying and build the wings and
all the other new butterfly parts that the caterpillar did not have, changing form
completely. What a ghastly process! Or is it a magnificent miracle? Caterpillar time is
up, time to fly butterfly! One story ends, another one begins. Are you heartbroken
for the pupa or are you feeling thankful for the emergence of the butterfly? You are
too transitioning into a new phase, a new way of being. Give yourself lots of time and
TLC thru this passage. (I know I did not mention the tulips on the card whom I named
Romeo and Juliette. The lark just alerted them to the coming of dawn and to the fact
that their rendezvous is over until next spring, when they will re emerge from the
frosty ground anew)

Death In a Pickle
• Not accepting that something is over. I am so sorry, I know this is hard. Take
your time with this and be gentle with yourself.
• Do you want the new you instantly? Hmmm..., that is not how it works.
Transformation is slow and intensely profound. It is not something you can
double click and get delivered with next day air. Be patient and genuine. We are
all looking forward to seeing your wings.

XV THE DEVIL

Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy the show and watch your step on the

way down (to rock bottom if that is your pleasure today).

Well, you ignored following Temperance’s recommendation of mixing and matching

in moderation? Now you are in deep. Are you digging deep for a creative treasure,
exploring your dark side? Are you digging deep to heal yourself and accept even the
shadowy bits of your soul? Or, are you in deep, stuck in the mud of this dark
dirt-floored cave, and you can’t seem to be able to move anymore? Which one is it?
How are you feeling? Check in with yourself. Are you breathless from creative
excitement? Are you feeling lethargic in the heavy, poppy laced subterranean air? In
a situation, like this, I would advise you to mind the details and read all the small
print. You know how the devil is in them. There could be long term consequences or
even hell to pay later if you make a careless choice now. But you don’t want to think
about such boring things right? The cool-aid looks refreshing and you are parched.
Did you notice that the wait staff is pretty weird looking and they are not wearing
much clothing? Well, it is hot in here! The mood is quite peculiar, maybe kind of
cool?! Electric blue mushrooms pulse with magical poison, snakes wriggle about and
the cocktail umbrella is a bat... So, will you take a sip? I know you want to…or will you
get yourself together and take a beeline for the exit that opens to a sunny meadow,
to freedom?

The Devil In a Pickle

• You are allowing your energy to get drained by harmful habits. Vampire-like
humans make you tired. You believe in lies. You are indulging. A lot. You feel
guilty. You blame, you co-depend, you avoid finding out why you are in pain. You
hurt and that becomes your whole life.
• You feel like you cannot control anything. There nothing you can do, or is there?
Take one small step at a time establish your boundaries mentally and physically.
Ask for help stat from a loved one you trust.

XVI THE TOWER

Oh, no, not now….

If you are reluctant to leave the Devil’s lair, a divine commando will bust you out of
there sooner or later. You cannot stay down there forever, chained to your illusions
and misconceptions. It is time to get on with the program! Commandos tend to be
bit heavy handed tho and they never give you advance notice. Your rescue
experience can range from mild annoyance to sheer panic. The Tower Task Force
usually strikes at an inconvenient time. They might show up in the middle of the
night or early morning while you are buttering your toast. All your (ego driven)
shenanigans you were busy with will be interrupted. Your pants might catch on fire
too if you know what I mean. You can try to grab a stash of cash or hold onto your
official status or your limiting beliefs but it is no use. You will be set free from all
these trimmings like it or not. The truth will be out. You are now free to be you.
Unplugged version. So let’s hear your song! Let’s go, let’s turn it up and live life with
your creative purpose on full blast!
The Tower In a Pickle
• You are holding on tooth and nail, unwilling to believe your own eyes.
• Yes, this is really happening and yes, you still have a choice about what you do
with it now. Will you fall or will you fly?

XVII THE STAR

It is your time to shine!

After the Tower has blasted down all the lies and the shams, your true self is
springing to life at last. Your dreams are yours for the taking (action). Shine on Baby
Angel! Your ride tonight is the magical Blue Bird of Happiness! It is a balmy summer
night, citrus scented leaves are rustling. The fountain of youth is bubbling below
while you are lifting up gently into the celestial spheres… Your own, sweet heavenly
body feels so good, now that you are free to show all parts of yourself. No more
pretending, hiding, holding back, no more putting up with stuff that hurts, no more
living life for some one else. You can wear your hair any way you like and you can
paint your toes and not wear shoes. And you tell your Blue Bird ride where to take
you exactly. You decide what dream to make come true, you decide what is true for
you. Your time has come. Follow your bliss and don’t look back. Ah, this is it, this is

The Star In a Pickle

• You keep putting off going for what you want. You are finding a million excuses
why you are not taking action. Or maybe it makes more sense for you to be
realistic and keep your nose to the grindstone.
• You are comparing your star to some other star. Or you are spellbound by
someone else’s shine. You feel outshone. All stars are different. Your dream and
star is yours alone, you the only one who can travel there. Don’t spend time
comparing or thinking about other people’s star and what is on it. Mind your
own dream gorgeous!

XVIII THE MOON

Don’t believe everything you see.

Welcome to your own haunted forest ride! Oh, *&#@!!! The Blue Bird of Happiness
could only take you so far. You are suddently on your own! Or are you? Wait, what
are those things moving in the shadows of the forest?! Creepy!!! It is pitch dark out
and the only light is from the Moon. Your choices are: get overwhelmed, freak out
and give up. OR, you ground yourself, keep breathing and keep putting one foot in
front of the other. Feel every step. You are OK, this is part of the process. You can do
it! See that pool of light that forms around you? It is heart shaped! Cause, Love is all
there is. Right? Right! You know this! You walk that narrow path of light taking shape
in front of you. You have your red power boots on and your essential supplies in your
basket. If you need to, call in support, you don’t need do this all alone. And,
remember YOUR DREAM? Hold onto it, keep thinking of it, fine tune it, feel it taking
shape in your body. Feel yourself EVOLVE as you walk this challenging path.
