RAPID FIRE!

-- Modifications for post-war


conflicts

Introduction
These are a set of modifications to the fast play WW2 rules ``Rapid Fire!" by Colin Rumford
and Richard Marsh (Stratagem Publications LTD). They allow you to extend the range of
battles you can play from the end of WW2 up until the present day. In formulating the
modifications and, in some cases, new rules I have tried to change as little as possible. This is
in order not to loose the elegance and simplicity of the originals. I hope I have succeeded.
Below I go through the changes, section by section, and then at the end list the A.F.V., gun
and missile characteristics for a number of countries. Lastly I include four scenarios based on
games on a 6' x 8' table.

1. MOVEMENT RATES
Road X Country

a: An infantry battalion or ......... strength has fallen to (Elite) 50%, (Regular) 60%,
(Militia/Poor) 70% or which has sustained a total of (Elite) 20, (Regular) 16, (Militia/Poor)

6. ANTI-TANK FIRE
New gun classes 0, -1, -2, -3 & -4.
New vehicle classes I, II, III & IV.

Fourth range band (for gun types ``-3" & ``-4" only) Distant 48-60"

Below use outer gun type with outer vehicle class, inner gun type with inner vehicle class.
For example;

An M60A1 (Gun 0) firing at a T-72 (Armour I) has a basic hit roll of 4+,
A BMP-3 (Gun 3) firing at an AMX-VC1 (Armour D) has a basic hit roll of 3+,
A Challenger I (Gun -3) firing at a BMP-2 (Armour C) has a basic hit roll of 2+,
An ERB (Gun 3) firing at a Centurion UG (Armour I) has no chance of a hit.

Additional Modifiers:

-1 if firer moved over half of its maximum movement rate


and gun IS stabilised.
-1 if target/firer moved (not Anti-Tank Rifle) and gun
IS NOT stabilised.
-2 if at distant range (type ``-3" & ``-4" guns only).

Effect:
Chobram/Reactive armour treat ATGW effect as ``Extreme" (Reactive armour only works
once, on first hit)
Extreme/Distant: 4=Light Damage, 5=Heavy Damage, 6=Destroyed.

7. MISCELLANEOUS WEAPONS AND THEIR


EFFECTS
LAD: May fire only once per game. Max. range 4". Range ``Normal", gun type
1.
(HE value 8pts. on table 4)
LAW: Have 3 shots per game. Max. range 8". Range ``Normal", gun type 0.
(HE value 8pts on table 4)
ATGW: Have 3 shots per game unless stated otherwise. Max. range varies.
Range ``Normal", gun type varies.
(HE value 8pts on table 4)

10. SMOKE
AFV Smoke: Laid at start of turn. Removed start of next turn.
Dischargers - 3" diam. up to 1" from AFV
Generators - 3" wide x length of movement of AFV (maximum of 6" only).
Must use Move THEN Fire option for turn laying smoke.

12. AIRCRAFT
New aircraft type: Helicopter
May have one aircraft AND ANY number of helicopters over the table in any one turn.
Helicopters move as aircraft but may also hover and load/unload (taking one full turn).

Ground Attack:
May use guided weapons. Treat as ATGWs to hit.

Anti-aircraft Fire:
Light SAM - Treated as anti-aircraft gun.
Heavy SAM - May fire on targets at any range.
15% chance to shoot down aircraft.
30% chance to drive it off.

NEW RULES FOR NIGHT FIGHTING


Unaided visibility at night is at 1/6th ranges, 1/12th if no moon.
Search light: normal visibility cone 24" by 4". User is automatically spotted by others at any
range.
Illumination Shell: Dice to hit as for HE fire. Gives normal visibility within an 8" radius.

Thermal Imager - Normal daytime range
User of Infra-red sight is automatically spotted by other infra-red sights or image intensifiers
out to 24".

NEW RULES FOR NBC WARFARE


Radiation or biological contaminated areas must be specified before the start of the game, and
remain for the duration of the game. They may not be entered by units without NBC
protection. Those with NBC protection may enter without risk, but have NBC
restrictions/modifiers, see below.

Chemical rounds may be delivered by artillery or aircraft during the game, each round
covering an area 6" square. Persistent agents last for the rest of the game, non-persistent
agents last for 1 turn. Once an area has been identified as containing a chemical agent units
with no NBC protection may not enter. Those with NBC protection may enter without risk,
but have NBC restrictions/modifiers, see below.

Any units within the affected area that are either surprised OR have no NBC protection must
dice each turn below:

If using NBC protection (troops or vehicles) then:
 Half movement
 -1 to firing AT weapons
 -1 point from small arms fire
 -1 in moral tests
