Work Sheet and Assignment
Work Sheet and Assignment
1. Purpose
You’ve practiced different techniques for sketching objects so that they appear to have a three-
dimensional quality. These techniques are excellent for quickly communicating ideas to both
technical and non-technical people.
However, pictorials do not provide accurate information about the true size and shape of an
object and all of its features. It is often the case that engineered objects have features and edges
that are obscured by the standard surface views of a Multiview drawing.
Knowing how to sketch and interpret Multiview’s is an important skill for any engineer.
2. Procedure
In this activity, you will develop your ability to see and sketch objects as a series of related two-
dimensional views. Understanding and using the different line conventions, discussed earlier in this
lesson, will help when creating these views.

I. Review questions (35%)
1. What do you mean by projection? Give its classification.
2. Differentiate between a pictorial view and multi-view.
3. What is an orthographic projection?
4. What is a multi-view projection? How it differs from axonometric projection?
5. How a solid or an object should be placed on the planes to obtain multi-views.
6. Explain it with the help of necessary sketches.
7. Define vertical, horizontal and profile plane.
8. Differentiate between first angle and third angle projection.
9. Give the symbolic representation of first and third angle projection.
10. What is the criterion for selection of the face of an object suitable for front view, while
drawing multi-views?
11. State the advantages of a sectional view and state the advantages of a half sectional view.
12. To obtain a half sectional view, how much portion of the object is actually removed?
13. What is auxiliary views and state the advantages of auxiliary views.
II. For Numbers 1- 25: Read each of the following multiple-choice items and
the possible answers carefully. Mark the letter of the correct answer on
your answer sheet. (25%)
1. In orthographic projection, lines are formed by projecting edges of the object onto planes. The
images formed on the planes are called:
A. Views. C. Points.
B. Sides. D. Tangencies
2. The term ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION means to:
A. “Throw backward at an angle of 45 degree and draw”.
B. “Throw forward at an angle of 45 degrees and draw”.
C. “Throw forward at right angles and draw”.
D. “Rotate the object at 45 degrees to the picture plane”.
3. When making a Multiview drawing of an object, you need to draw:
A. Only as many views as are needed to C. Two views.
describe the shape. D. Six view.
B. Three views.
4. The most often used combination of views includes the:
A. Top, front, and right side. C. Top, front, right side, left side, and back.
B. Top, front, and left side. D. Top and right side.
5. When making an orthographic drawing, the THICKEST lines should be the:
A. Center lines. C. Extension lines.
B. Visible (Object) lines. D. Hidden lines.
6. The FRONT TO BACK dimension of an object is known as the:
A. Altitude. C. Height.
B. Depth. D. Width.
7. Surfaces and edges that CANNOT be seen from the outside of the object are identified by:
A. Hidden lines. C. Opaque lines.
B. Invisible lines. D. Unseen lines.
8. Another term for ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWING is:
A. Isometric drawing. C. Multiview drawing.
B. Oblique drawing. D. Perspective.
9. Drawings of objects with very little thickness (like an erasing shield) require:
A. One view. C. Three views.
B. Two views. D. Four views.
10. Surfaces or edges that CANNOT be seen in the views are drawn with:
A. Centerlines. C. Hidden lines.
B. Visible/Object lines. D. No lines.
11. Orthographic projection involves the use of three planes. They are:
A. Vertical (Frontal), Profile, and Level.
B. Horizontal, Vertical (Frontal), and Profile.
C. Horizontal, Profile, and Level.
D. Straight, Level, and Inclined.
12. In most cases, you can completely describe the shape and size of an object by drawing:
A. One view. C. Four views.
B. Two views. D. Two or three views.
13. The distance from the BOTTOM of an object to the TOP of the object is:
A. Circumference. C. Height.
B. Width. D. Depth.
14. How many views should be drawn if the object's thickness is given in a note?
A. One C. Three
B. Two D. Six
15. What three dimensions do all objects have?

B. Angle, height, and depth. D. Angle, depth, and radius.
16. The LEFT SIDE view consists of:
A. Depth and Height. C. Height and Circumference.
