VEDIC MATHS ORIGIN

Vedic Mathematics is a collection of ancient techniques for performing arithmetic quickly and efficiently,
which originated from the Vedas, ancient Indian scriptures. The term "Vedic" comes from the Sanskrit
word Veda, which means knowledge.

DISCOVERY

Vedic Mathematics was discovered by Shri Bharathi Krishna Tirthaji between AD 1911 and 1918.
Regarded as the Father of Vedic Maths, Tirthaji published his findings in a book titled Vedic Mathematics
in 1957 wherein he wrote about the 16 Sutras.

EXTRACTED FROM WHICH VEDA

Vedic math is derived from the Atharva Veda, an ancient Indian scripture. The mathematical formulas in
Vedic math are said to be contained in the pariśiṣṭa, or appendix, of the Atharva Veda.

Indian mathematician Jagadguru Shri Bharati Krishna Tirthaji revived Vedic math between 1911 and
1918. He documented the mathematical principles in his book Vedic Mathematics, published in 1965.
The book is based on 16 sutras (formulas) and 13 sub sutras.

Vedic math is known for its ability to improve calculation speed and accuracy. The sutras provide mental
tricks and shortcuts that help students solve problems quickly. Vedic math is also versatile, and NASA has
applied some of its concepts to artificial intelligence.

ABOUT SHRI BHARATHI KRISHNA TIRTHJI

Some information related to Bharati Krishna Tirtha:

Bharati Krishna Tirtha is considered the father of Vedic mathematics.

He lived in Sringeri Math under Jagadguru Shankaracharya and there he studied Advaita Vedanta from
1911 to 1919.

In the year 1919, he took the initiation of Sannyas and became known as Swami Bharati Krishna Tirtha.

He had a deep interest in subjects like literature, geography, history, music, mathematics, astrology.

He left behind a legacy of spiritual guidance and Vedic knowledge.

He died on 2 February 1960 in Mumbai.

He wrote a book named Vedic Mathematics.

After his manuscript notebook was mortgaged, he was asked to write it again.

He wrote this book in one and a half months despite old age and poor health.
In the year 1958, the typescript of Vedic Mathematics was sent to America for publication.

BENEFITS OF VM

Speed and accuracy: Vedic math can help you solve problems faster and with fewer mistakes.

Improved memory and retention: Vedic math encourages you to hold numbers in your head, rather than
using pencil and paper.

Better concentration: Vedic math can help you improve your concentration and intuition.

Increased intelligence: Vedic math can help you develop your brain muscles and improve your IQ.

Creativity: Vedic math is based on pattern identification, which can help you express your imagination.

Logical reasoning: Vedic math is based on rational and logical reasoning.

Easy to learn: Vedic math is easy to master and apply, and you can use a single method for several math
functions.

Helps with complex problems: Vedic math can help you solve problems related to geometrical theorems
and algebra.

Helps with mental agility: Vedic math can help you sharpen your mind and increase your mental agility.

Reduces memorization: Vedic math can help you reduce the amount you need to memorize.

DISADVANTAGES OF VM

Some say that Vedic mathematics has the following disadvantages:

May lead to a false idea of math

Students may believe that math is only about quickly solving problems from a textbook.

May lead to blind faith

Students may develop blind faith in the techniques, which can lead to incorrect proofs and a focus on
computation instead of proving.

May not help with more complex problems

Students may become good at a limited set of problems, but may not know how to solve more general
problems.

Lack of resources

There may be a lack of Vedic math resources, such as student books, teacher books, and workbooks that
are aligned with the school curriculum.

No uniform method

Vedic math doesn't have a uniform method for solving math problems. The application of sutras, or
rules, can vary for each question.

Vedic mathematics is an ancient Indian system of calculation that uses techniques like digit sum, base
multiplication, Nikhilam multiplication, and duplex method. Some say that Vedic math can help improve
focus, memory, concentration, and speed and accuracy.

USE OF VM IN DAILY LIFE

Vedic maths can be used in daily life in many ways, including:

Solving complex calculations: Vedic maths can help you solve complex calculations with ease, including
those involving cube roots, square roots, cubes, and squares.

Improving mental calculation: Vedic maths can help you improve your mental calculation skills.

Improving concentration: Vedic maths can help you improve your concentration.
Improving memory: Vedic maths can help you improve your memory and retention.

Developing creativity: Vedic maths can help you develop your creativity.

Saving time: Vedic maths can help you save time, especially during exams.

Reducing stress: Vedic maths can help you reduce mental stress.

Improving interest in math: Vedic maths can help you improve your interest in math.
