The world’s first video store opened in West Hollywood in 1977. It was the brainchild
of a failed actor and former stuntman who would change the entertainment industry.
Video players are one of those inventions that are older than you think: the first was
demonstrated in Berlin, in 1961 (for more inventions that are older than you think,
see this list). Sony followed suit, and produced its first model in the US, in 1965.
They were bulkier, and looked more like a piece of stereo equipment; programs were
recorded on large, open spools of magnetic tape. They were also expensive: Sony’s
model retailed for $995 (equivalent to $9 200 today), and a one hour tape cost $60.

There are numerous video file formats available that can be used for videos, which
provide different-different video quality. A list is given below that has some common
kinds of video files.
3
3GP: 3GP is a compression file format created by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership
Project), which is a basic version of MPEG-4 part 14 (MP4) format. It is used to
compress audio, video, and other multimedia to save on disk space, bandwidth, and
data usage. It often creates files for use with cell phones. There are different video
players that can play this file format videos on your computer, smartphone, or tablet.
The .3GP or .3G2 are the file extensions of the 3GP file format.
MP4: MP4 is a file format that was introduced in 1998, which stands for MPEG-4
Part 14 and, it was agreed upon as a standard by the MPEG. It is an audio and video
compression standard, commonly used to store video and audio as well as store
subtitles and still images. Like the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 standards, MPEG-4
reduces the file size as much as possible through codified methods for encoding audio
and video. It provides some features, such as DRM
(Digital Rights Management) support, various forms of
interactivity, including features for 3D rendering with
VRML.
4
.AVI: An AVI file is a sound and motion picture file, stands for Audio Video
Interleaved that is used for video files under Microsoft Windows. The file size, 2 GB,
is the maximum file size of an AVI file. AVI files have the extension .avi and need a
special player to play the video files that may be require downloading or may be
included with your Web browser.
WebM: WebM provides open video compression for HTML5 videos that are based
on the same video format, which uses the MKV file extension. It is a container format
for audio and video data that is sponsored by Google Inc. as a WebM Project. Under
a BSD license, it was put together to provide support and release WebM content that
led to available in the market to users for free of cost. If any file has the WEBM file
extension, it will be a WebM Video file. As the format is used on HTML5 websites
for video streaming, therefore, most web browsers support WEBM files.
5
MOV: MOV is a MPEG 4 video container file format introduced by Apple in 1998.
It is a format of Apple's Quicktime program. An algorithm, Apple's proprietary
compression, is used by MOV files, which can be opened with the help of using a
video editor, compatible video program, or QuickTime.
.WMV: The WMV file extension is a video file format, which stands for Windows
Media Video and is developed by Microsoft. It is a compressed video file format that
supports different video codecs for streaming video over the Internet. The .WMV is
the file extension of the WMV file. It contains video encoded with one of Microsoft's
WMV proprietary codec and is the same as an. ASF file. Now WMV files can be
played on different player software. In 1999, it was introduced as a competitor of the
RealVideo format.
.FLV: An FLV encoder tool is native to the Adobe Flash player, which is commonly
used to change audio and video into the FLV format. The .FLV is the file extension
of the FLV file.

❖
Video is an all-round and engaging content format that helps us in many different
areas, such as advertisement, entertainment, keep a record, etc. It can be shared easily
across multiple platforms, which provides us a real-life picture of what is going on.
Businesses or marketers like videos as it can help to achieve their goal when they
play their videos on many channels, through which millions of people will watch
their videos at own place and would know about their product or other services. Also,
with the internet, it is very easy to access the video by anyone in terms of watching
and producing. However, on a professional level, most people like a high-quality
video; anyone can create their own video a very few times and can hop onto their
laptop to watch

1. Animation
When you hear the word ‘animation’, your first thought might be a children’s cartoon.
But animation is so much broader than that.
This is a 2D animation:
Here is a 3D animation:
8
To create an animation, you first need to create all of the graphics that will appear in
your video. Most teams will lay these out in a storyboard that breaks the video down
scene by scene.
This is one of its major benefits, because animation gives you complete creative
control over your video projects. There are no actors to manage. No sets to dress. In
fact, the topic of your video doesn’t even need to be tangible.
Thanks to this ability to “create whatever you can conceive”, animation is the perfect video
style for explaining difficult or complicated concepts in an easy and digestible way –
meaning it goes beyond marketing and into the realm of educational videos and training
videos, as well.
So if you’re having trouble explaining something about your product or service to your
customers, then a simple animation could help clear things up and reduce the amount of
customer service calls you receive.
On a lighter note, animated videos are great for injecting a bit of fun into your marketing!
Let’s take our minds back to the first thing we said about animation – it gives connotations
of children’s cartoons. Thanks to that sense of fun, animation is a great choice for
promotional videos.
You can use this playfulness to your advantage to attract attention online and encourage
people to share your videos to increase your exposure even more.
With animation, videos are completely under your control: you can use whatever colours,
styles and characters you want, and that makes animation a great fit for advertising videos.

2.
Stop motion is actually just another form of animation. It still requires you to create
all of the visual elements for your video, but stop motion must be created frame by
frame and can’t be captured digitally (like most animations are these days).
Each element seen on screen has been created by a team behind the scenes. Every
time anything moves on screen the camera has to be stopped, and the items and/or
characters re-positioned for the next scene.
It’s a painstaking process and definitely a labour of love by those who choose to
create stop motion videos.
❖
While we’ve mentioned that stop motion is mostly known for films like Wallace and
Gromit, it can absolutely be used to market your business, and has been used by many
brands to great success

3.
Mixed media videos are exactly what they sound like – videos that utilise more than
one form of media. This could be an animated video with some stock photography
thrown in, or a live action video with some screencasts in the mix.
❖
With mixed media you can include actors for a personal touch, utilise animation to
explain concepts and ideas, and showcase real screenshots of your software to help
manage customer expectations. The possibilities are endless here.
4. Scr
A screencast (also known as a screen recorded demo) is a video that shows a direct
recording of your website, software, or app.
11
❖
Screencasts can be used in a number of ways, both pre and post-sale. Pre-sale,
screencast videos can be great for demonstrations. This allows you to highlight all of
the amazing benefits of your product in order to win over customers.
If your product is an app, you can also post your video to the App Store to increase
downloads. And they can also help educate your users – with tutorial videos to help
introduce various features and tools within an app.
Post-sale, screencast videos make great tutorials and allow you to show customers
exactly how to get the most out of your product.
5.
Similar to screencast videos are animated demos. Animated demos help you to show
off your software in a dynamic and eye-catching way, so you can give viewers a
representation of your platform or app
without showing them the real thing.
❖
Animated demos are perfect for showcasing your platform or app while giving you
the freedom to make updates and UI changes in the future that won’t impact your
marketing or out-date your videos.
12
For this reason, animated demos are also a good use case for platforms or software
that is confidential. For example, if you’re marketing a banking app then you may
prefer to opt for an animated, pared back representation of the software over
populating a real account with dummy data.
Both animated demos and screencasts have their benefits, but typically animated
demos are better for pre-sale marketing (to drum up attention) and screencasts are
better post-sale (for showing new users exactly how to use your software).
6.
Live action video is a form of cinematography that uses videography instead of
animation. That means real people, real sets, real props. It’s one of the most common
forms of marketing video.
Live action video is a great way to personalise your brand. You can put a face to the
name and this helps to build credibility, win trust, and show the world that behind
your company there are real people with passion and expertise.
13
7.
Live streaming is still relatively new in comparison to some of the other types of
video on this list. It’s basically the process of streaming live to your audience via a
social networking platform like YouTube and Facebook.
With more and more video content being uploaded online
every second, live streaming offers an opportunity to stand out.
❖
On YouTube it’s pretty easy to start a live stream. All you have to do is login, click
the camera/plus icon at the top-right of the page, and select “Go Live” from the
dropdown:
You’ll want to create a rough plan of what you’re going to talk about first. Live
streaming is a great way to share exciting announcements with your audience and it’s
also an awesome way to interact with people too.
Many live stream platforms have a live comments thread so viewers can send in their
questions and observations, and you can answer them in real time.
14
8. Interactive
Interactive videos put your viewers in control of their own viewing experience.
Instead of just hitting play and watching a video passively, viewers are invited to
interact! They can make decisions, answer questions, and even make purchases
directly from your video.
❖
Interactive videos are fun and a really easy way to wow your customers. But on the
more practical side of things, you can use interactive videos to target more than one
audience at a time.
For example, let’s say your company is a real estate agency. With an interactive video
you can take people interested in selling along one path and people interested in
buying along another path.
So you can target both audiences with one video without asking people to sit through
a portion of content that isn’t relevant to them
