At the very beginning I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Almighty Allah for giving me
strength and composure to finish the task within the schedule time. All MBA (Weekend) students are
deputed to different organization to learn something within the day to day life by observing their
organization daily practices. In this regard I am working at Pubali Bank Limited, Daulatgonj Branch with
deliberate counseling of my Branch manager Mr. Amirul Islam and also thankful to Professor Dr.
Mohammad Solaiman sir to given me opportunity to prepare this report. My heartiest gratitude for her
enthusiastic guidance and consideration during the entire phase of the study made it possible for me to

Executive Summary

The report is a prepared as part of practical orientation of EMBA (Weekend) program a description of all
activities done by Pubali Bank Daulatgonj branch. The report is lively narration of various banking
activities like Banking services, Banking functions, Management structures, four elements of
management functions and other ancillary services.

As a conventional bank branch, it has a general banking section where the primary task of deposit
collection, maintenance of accounts, cash and all local services are done. It performs the job of fund
management on behalf of the whole bank. Other main duty of the department is maintenance of the
accounts and dealing with the clearinghouse. The loans and advance section are in charge of proper
disbursement of the funds to productive as well as profitable ventures. The foreign trade department is in
charge of foreign trade financing. The bank work as both issuing bank, negotiating bank and
reimbursement bank to international trading. Remittance of foreign currencies is another important job of
the department.

In this age when management requires proper flow of accurate information to run an organization
successfully than the banks way of information handling is quite outdated from the view point of
sophisticated management information science. Facts and figures of the branch clearly indicates that the
Daulatgonj Branch of Pubali Bank Limited is as well-run branch and the trends of graphs shows a sign of
improvement and expansion of activity in all spears of banking.

Limitation of the study

The limitation of the study is defined by the extensive of the facts covered by the study and those that left
out. However, these limitations can be presented in the following lines:

 The lack of intellectual thought and analytical ability" to make it a perfect one.
 I have to offset with the quality" due to me constraint which apparently" seems to be the most
sever limitation.
 Another limitation of the report is non availability" of the most recent data 4information of
different activities of pubali banks policy" of not disclosing some data 4 information for some
reason. which could be very" much useful.

Levels of Managements

Managers at all these levels perform different functions. The role of managers at all the
three levels is discussed below:

LEVELS OF MANAGEMENT

1. Top Level of Management

It consists of board of directors, chief executive or managing director.

The top management is the ultimate source of authority and it manages goals and policies for an
enterprise. It devotes more time on planning and coordinating functions.

The role of the top management can be summarized as follows –

 Top management lays down the objectives and broad policies of the enterprise.
 It issues necessary instructions for preparation of department budgets, procedures,
schedules etc.
 It prepares strategic plans & policies for the enterprise.
 It appoints the executive for middle level i.e., departmental managers.
 It controls & coordinates the activities of all the departments.
 It is also responsible for maintaining a contact with the outside world.
 It provides guidance and direction.

2. Middle Level of Management

The branch managers and departmental managers constitute middle level. They are responsible to the
top management for the functioning of their department. They devote more time to organizational and
directional functions.

9|Page
In small organization, there is only one layer of middle level of management but in big enterprises,
there may be senior and junior middle level management. Their role can be emphasized as -

 They execute the plans of the organization in accordance with the policies and directives of the top
management.
 They make plans for the sub-units of the organization.
 They participate in employment & training of lower-level management.
 They interpret and explain policies from top level management to lower level.

3. Lower Level of Management

Lower level is also known as supervisory/operative level of management. It consists of Cash in

charge, sales officers, cash officers, GB officers etc.

According to R.C. Davis, “Supervisory management refers to those executives whose work has to be
largely with personal oversight and direction of operative employees”.

In other words, they are concerned with direction and controlling function of management. Their
activities include -

 Assigning of jobs and tasks to various workers.

 They guide and instruct workers for day-to-day activities.
 They are responsible for the quality as well as quantity of production.

The Four Functions of Management

The management process by which we pursue goals includes planning, organizing, leading, and
controlling. These are “the how” a manager pursues organizational goals, and are universally known as
the four functions of management. They stem from the work of a French mining administrator, Henri
Fayol, who first identified management as a practice that could be improved through the use of four
functions – planning, organizing, Leading, and controlling. Since he published his work in 1916, we have
decided that leading people through motivation and incentivization works much better than telling them
what to do.

For any financial & non-financial organization management function is the most important and
valuable resources of any kind of organization and a well organize management provide it to reaches the
ultimate goals.

10 | P a g e
Management process/functions involve 4 basic activities;

1. Planning and Decision Making: Determining Courses of Action,

2. Organizing: Coordinating Activities and Resources,
3. Leading: Managing, Motivating and Directing People,
4. Controlling: Monitoring and Evaluating activities.

1. Planning and Decision Making

The plan helps maintain managerial effectiveness as it works as a guide for future activities. Selecting
goals as well as the paths to achieve them is what planning involves. Planning involves selecting missions
and objectives and the actions to achieve them. It requires decision-making or choosing future courses of
action from among alternatives.

Pubali bank engaging in strategic short term and long-term goals. Last year (2022) PBL setting their
target to achieves 1200 cr profit. That’s why our top-level management focusing with new strategies to
getting that goal. Basically, top management set this kind of target and they show the way to achieves
this.

Our main focusing area are managing large numbers CASA account, influencing small customers

loan, decreasing NPL (non-performing loan), making completely free online transaction to
engaging more customers and large number of footfall etc

This plan mainly coordinated by mid-level managers and implementing first line managers. End of this
year with this plan PBL achieves 1400cr + profit.

2. Organizing

Organizing is part of managing, which involves establishing an intentional structure of roles for people to
fill in the organization. It is intentional in the sense of making sure that all the tasks necessary to
accomplish goals are assigned to people who can do the best.

The purpose of an organizational structure is to create an environment for the best human performance.

PBL is organized as per the existing business locations. It has 8 regional office all over the country to
coordinate 64 districts closely. PBL has 498 branches and every profitable branch has 2-3 sub-branches in
rural and urban areas. Every branch has own target and they are responsible for own performance. Each
branch head report to the regional office, regional office reported to the area office, area office reported to
the GM office and head office.

3. Leading – Managing, Motivating, and Directing People

The third basic managerial function is leading. It is the skills of influencing people for a particular
purpose or reason. Leading is considered to be the most important and challenging of all managerial
activities. Leading is influencing or prompting the organization member to work together with the interest
of the organization. Creating a positive attitude towards the work and goals among the members of the

13 | P a g e
organization is called leading. It is required as it helps to serve the objective of effectiveness and
efficiency by changing the behavior of the employees.

4. Controlling

Controlling is measuring, comparing, finding deviation, and correcting the organizational activities
performed to achieve the goals or objectives. Thus, controlling consists of activities like; measuring the
performance, comparing with the existing standard and finding the deviations, and correcting the
deviations. Control activities generally relate to the measurement of achievement or results of actions
taken to attain the goal. Some means of controlling, like the budget for expenses, inspection records, and
the record of labor hours lost, are generally familiar. Each measure also shows whether plans are working
out.

Pubali bank always monitoring each employees with their performances & this is on of the way to
control them. Every week we have morning hurdle to monitor their achieves. If some one can not
achieves their target or given projection, they should monitor closely what is the reason behind that. And
then bank provide weak employees training, workshop etc for improvement. Comparing previous year’s
performance & correcting path also essential for controlling employees for future.

Recommendation

 Updating software’s is essential right now for smooth service and connecting to the management.
 Hole management task should be computerized for better understanding.
 Management should not transfer employees frequently and do not transfer unfamiliar place. That
will impact employees mind & motivation to achieve the goal.

14 | P a g e
 Computerize all data so the papers could be kept in lock up and not taken out unless physical
proof would be needed.
 Token service need to each customer to give proper customer satisfaction.
 Marketing strategies are so poor, they do not provide modern advertising methods to attract
customers.

Conclusion

All the management functions of its process are interrelated and cannot be skipped. The management
process designs and maintains an environment in which personnel’s, working together in groups
accomplish efficiently selected aims. All managers carry out management’s main functions: planning,
organizing, leading, and controlling. But depending on the skills and position on an organizational level,
the time and labor spent in each function will differ. Planning, organizing, leading, and controlling are the
4 functions, which work as a continuous process.
