ENGINE START
Before starting the engine we have to remember four things

1. The ignition switch is in the OFF position by default. This setting ensures that none of the
electronics are on and that the engine is for sure shut down.

2. The ON position is actually the BATTERY, so one switch to the right will bring electrical
power to the airplane.

3. Finally the START position. This flick to the right will start the engine, however, only if you
have the ENGINE MASTER switch in the ON position.

4. Make sure that the FUEL SELECTOR is turned to NORMAL

A Demonstration is shown below:

TRIM WHEEL
The Trim Wheel is located between the pilot and copilots seats and just behind the FUEL
SELECTOR. The Trim Wheel is the secondary option for the pilot on the left seat but if the
pilot is flying from the right seat, the Trim Wheel becomes their primary source of elevator
trim. A pilot flying from the right seat can use the electronic trim integrated in the control
column.

ELECTRONIC TRIM

The DA40NG comes equipped with an electronic trim on the left joystick. This makes it
convenient for the pilot to trim while holding the stick rather than reaching down to push or
pull a wheel like the pilot on the right hand side. You can access both trims with your buttons
on your hardware.
LIGHTING

The DA40NG’s interior and exterior lighting can be found above the two G1000’s on the Main
Instrument Panel (M.I.P)

From left to right we have Instrument, Flood, Landing, Taxi, Position, Strobe.

INSTRUMENT LIGHTS
This knob controls the level of brightness of the panel lightning. This means all text and icons
in the cockpit. These lights are best used at night time or in dim lighting. Example below:
FLOOD LIGHTS

The flood lights are mainly used at night time or in poor weather where standby instruments
are difficult to see. Our depiction of those flood lights can be represented below in a realistic
fashion:

LANDING & TAXI LIGHTS

The Landing and taxi lights are located on the left wing under a glass cap. They illuminate the
ground at night time and the landing lights should always be used in a landing scenario.
POSITION & STROBES

The Position lights are what allows other pilots to spot them in the sky, and are distinctly
marked in a colour coordinated fashion to tell left from right, and top to bottom. Strobe lights
provide an aggressive flash to traffic nearby to also show where the position of the aircraft is.

GROUND SERVICES

SimSolutions ground services are visually capturing and add a lot to the environment of the
airplane when shut down. These services include:

1. Pitot tube covering

2. Winglet coverings

3. Engine Intake coverings

4. Wheel chocks

5. Wing tie downs

6. Tail tie down

7. Remove Before Flight strips
