Manufacturing Processes

Pressure kettle process

Pressure kettle processes take advantage of the faster saponification
reaction that occurs at elevated pressure. Pressure kettle lids are
sealed domes, which are designed to contain the elevated pressure
generated by steam given off during the reaction. Pressure kettles
are typically used only for the saponification reaction, and the grease
is then pumped to an open kettle for batch completion
CONTINUOUS PROCESSES
Continuous process operations offer several advantages over batch
processes. The equipment used to make the grease can be smaller
for the same or greater product output. Continuous processing offers
better control of the operating variables, which results in a more
consistent product (see Table 2). Continuous processes are suitable
for a variety of simple soap and complex soap greases, from National
Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI) grade 000 to grade 3 (although
grade 2 is optimum)
Equipment Description

Distillation Columns: Separate crude oil into various fractions based

on boiling points, such as gasoline, diesel, and kerosene.
Cracking Units: Break down larger molecules in crude oil into
smaller, more valuable ones (e.g., cracking of heavy hydrocarbons
into gasoline and diesel).
Hydrocracking Units: A refining process that uses hydrogen to break
down larger molecules and remove impurities.
Reformers: Convert naphtha into high-octane gasoline.
Desulfurization Units: Remove sulfur from refined petroleum
products to meet environmental standards.
Catalytic Converters: Used to speed up chemical reactions to
produce valuable products like gasoline.
Pipeline Systems: Used to transport crude oil, natural gas, and
refined petroleum products.
Tankers: Ships or trucks designed to transport liquid petroleum
products.
Railcars: Used to transport crude oil or refined products over long
distances by rail.
Centrifugal Pumps: Move petroleum products through pipelines
efficiently.
Compressor Stations: Boost gas pressure in pipelines to ensure the
flow of natural gas over long distances.
Safety equipments:
The concept of industrial safety is mainly related to the minimization
of various industrial hazards. Any physical or chemical situation
which can result in the injury of an individual or can cause any kind of
harm to the health of a person is termed as a hazard. Hazards can
result in some types of dangers or threats.
The various goals of industrial safety are discussed below:
➢ There is a requirement of industrial safety in order to prevent
any kind of incident resulting in accidents causing loss of life
and permanent disability of the employees or workers.
➢ By controlling the hazard to the minimum level, accidents in
the industry can be avoided.
➢ This is also important to aware the employees of the different
safety guidelines in order to prevent industrial accidents.
➢ Having improved human relations in the industry is quite
helpful.
➢ It is necessary for having improved production tools to higher
living standards.
➢ Workplace safety helps a company to avoid financial loss.
➢ Personal Protective Equipments

Conclusion

The main objective of the internship program is to provide an

opportunity to undergraduates to identify, observe and practice how
engineering is applicable in the real industry. It is not only to get
experience on technical practice but also observe management
practices and interact with fellow workers. The one month internship
that I received at Mineral Oil Corporation Pvt Ltd, Kanpur was a great
experience for me not only on technical terms but also in terms of
interaction with senior experienced persons, operators and workers.
This internship program is an excellent opportunity for us to get to
the ground level and experience the things. I learnt a great deal on
applying the knowledge I have gained at the institute. Learning
something from books and lectures is nothing like having first hand
experience. At Mineral Oil Corporation Pvt Ltd I got to apply my
chemical engineering knowledge. The company allowed us to ask
and do anything relevant to the training.
