Director’s Message

Director, IIM Sirmaur
Dear Friends,
I am immensely pleased to share the Summer Placement Report for the current
academic year 2023-2025.
It gives me great joy to see the commendable efforts and hard work of our
Placement Chair and the entire Placement Team culminate in the successful
placement of our students in reputed organizations.
It was a challenging year for placements across all B-Schools, including IIMs.
Despite a difficult period, IIM Sirmaur was the first amongst the new generation
IIMs to complete summer placements - a testament to our Impressive industry
connect and team spirit.
This academic year, nearly 150 firms visited IIM Sirmaur for summer placements.
The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of the average stipend from 2021 to
2024 is approximately 44.08%. In the last year, our mean stipend has increased by
39.31%. There was a 208% rise in the PPOs we received this year.
The placement team's meticulous planning, tireless coordination, and unwavering

dedication have ensured that our students have secured promising opportunities in
diverse sectors.

Prof. Karthikeyan Balakumar, Chairperson, Placement and External Relations, has

made relentless efforts not only to facilitate the professional growth of our students
but also to strengthen the reputation of IIM Sirmaur in the corporate world. His
transparent way of working has been widely appreciated by the entire student
community. His sincere simultaneous efforts to find the appropriate reputed
organizations for summer placements along with managing the morale of students
during this tough placement season is exceedingly noteworthy.
It was indeed a team effort and would not have been possible if not for the efforts
of Dr. Kirti Saxena, member of placement council and the rest of the placement
staff members, Mrs. Malkeet, Mr. Rajesh and Mr. Munish. Placement team
commitment to fostering meaningful connections between our students and
esteemed organizations is truly commendable. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to
each member of the placement team for their dedication, perseverance, and
professionalism throughout the placement process.
To our students, congratulations on your well-deserved placements! Your hard

work, determination, and adaptability have shone brightly during the placement
process. I have no doubt that you will excel in your respective roles and contribute
positively to your organizations.

Placement Chair’s Message

Dear Friends,
We are pleased to present this year’s report on the Summer Placements.
In addition to having been the year of many firsts, this year was one where we
looked internally to improve our processes and policies. Our team has implemented
one of the most progressive placement policies. There have been many tales of
camaraderie, going out of the way, and doing the right thing in the face of
adversity. I am sure you will hear of many such stories in the times to come. In this
report, we want to focus not just on hard numbers, but also the stories behind
those numbers.
Despite all odds and a significant market downturn, the team has worked tirelessly
and ensured that they embraced each student's aspirations and worked to fulfil
them. Our students have been placed in excellent roles and have begun working in
their first-ever management roles. The Placement Committee and the Training and
Development Cell work hand in hand to ensure that even while the students are in
internships, their learnings are shared and augmented through the careful use of
technology at every level. In addition to helping share the knowledge with the
batch, this technological push has also enabled us to be more proactive regarding
placement assistance and training needs.
The culture characterized by what we now fondly refer to as the Spirit of Sirmaur
has enabled us to win the trust of the batches and work closely with them to
achieve new heights. It makes me very happy to report that everything from the
batch brochure, mock interviews, JD breakdowns, to the design of this very report,
was completely done by our students. It is our firm belief that in this manner, brick
by brick, we will build IIM Sirmaur to new heights.
Our placement report, today, may not showcase the highest CTC, or the highest
number of international offers, or the most fancy packages. But we definitely are
ensuring good ROI on their IIM fees to every incoming student at IIM Sirmaur. In
some more time, I am extremely positive about the heights we will reach, given the
beginnings we have made. Our simple mantra for our team: Listen to the students,
connect with their aspirations and co-define a path to guide them towards their
aspirations. I hope you enjoy reading this report as much as we loved creating it.

Batch Profile
AY2023-2024 saw IIM Sirmaur welcome its largest batch ever of 309 students
across its two flagship programs: MBA and MBA Tourism Management (TM). IIM
Sirmaur is the only IIM in the country to offer a unique MBA program in Tourism
Management, keeping in mind the rapidly growing tourism industry, which provides
the potential to become a sunrise sector contributing to India’s GDP.
The 23-25 batch of IIM Sirmaur has a uniquely diverse profile of students, keeping
in mind the industry requirements as well as the available supply of talent in the
post-COVID-19 era. Key dimensions of batch diversity can be best understood
under the following headers.
Educational Background
51% of the batch is from a B.Com/BBA background, thus creating a rich supply of
high-quality MBA students from non-engineering backgrounds as desired by the
industry.

Batch Profile
Work Experience
The 2023-25 batch at IIM Sirmaur has strategically welcomed a higher number of
fresh graduates over individuals with extensive work experience. This decision
aligns with the anticipated hiring market slowdown, which could potentially limit the
Return On Investment (ROI) for those with significant professional backgrounds.
Generally, across leading business schools, average compensation for fresh
graduates tends to be lower than that for experienced professionals. However, in a
challenging market, the ROI for freshers investing in an MBA remains comparably
rewarding in the short term. Within the category of applicants with work
experience, IIM Sirmaur has shown a preference for those with less than 24 months
of professional experience in the current batch, tailoring our approach to maximize
educational impact and career outcomes for our students.

Batch Profile
Diversity
The 2023-25 batch at IIM Sirmaur beautifully mirrors the rich diversity of our
nation. With students proficient in languages ranging from Kashmiri and Tamil to
Gujarati and Assamese, they embody a variety of cultural backgrounds and life
experiences. Yet, they all share a common eagerness to learn and grow together.
Currently, the batch includes approximately 26% female students, a figure we
anticipate will rise with the next incoming class. In our MBA program, women
represent about 28% of students, while the MBA TM program includes a
representation of roughly 13% by female students.

Summer Internship Highlights
Students got what they sought

Across both our programs, 100% of all our students secured an internship in the
functional interest area of their choice. It is indeed a matter of great pride for us
that no firm was mandated to students at IIM Sirmaur this year, both for summer
and final placements. This indicates our alignment with student preferences and
commitment to their wholesome career development. Students from the Tourism
Management program were allowed to pick up internships from various functional
areas.
This was made possible through the participation of a record

number of companies.

This year, we've experienced a remarkable 100% increase in companies

participating in our campus summer placements. The companies that visited
include prominent names such as ICICI Bank, HDFC, EY, Stockgro, Accenture, DE
Shaw, DCM Shriram, MTPA, Vegrow, Indigo, Digit, travelbullz, KPMG, Bajaj Finserv,
AngelOne, Annapurna Finance, Easemytrip, IOCL, Jio creative labs, L&T, RBI, and
Tech Mahindra. Furthermore, more than 90% of our students are engaged in Work
from Office projects, ensuring greater immersion and in-depth learning during this
crucial period.

The figure below presents the sector-wise distribution of students from our MBA
and MBA TM programs. This distribution reflects the diversity of the batch in terms
of sector interests and opportunities across domains such as Finance, Marketing,
Human Resource, Operations & SCM, General Management, IT & Analytics,
Consulting, and Product Management & Strategy. This is also indicative of our
students’ readiness to excel in varied business environments and their alignment
with dynamic market needs.
This diversity not only enriches the learning environment by integrating varied
perspectives and expertise but also underscores the programs' ability to equip
students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in different sectors.

We have witnessed a steep jump of 40% in stipend value this
year.
The graph below illustrates the trends in stipends since 2021 at IIM Sirmaur.
Despite increasing batch sizes, we have witnessed a strong growth of CAGR 44%
in these years. This indicates our students’ industry readiness and the institute's
excellent industry connection.

International Offers
This year marked a notable achievement for our students as they expanded their
professional horizons internationally. The table below provides a detailed view of
the country-wise distribution of the international job offers received by our
students during this placement season. This highlights not only the global demand
for our graduates but also reflects the diverse geographical locations where they
are set to contribute their skills and knowledge, and underscores the international
appeal and readiness of our students to engage in and adapt to different cultural
and business environments across the globe.

Students from both the programs experienced a sharp increase in the stipends that
they were offered during the SIPs. The table below depicts the program-wise
distribution of the stipends that our students received during this placement
season.

In addition to witnessing a robust 40% growth over the years in terms of mean
stipend, IIM Sirmaur leapfrogged most of the 2nd/3rd generation IIMs to achieve
the fastest 100% summer placements this season.

Overhauling the placement culture in the interest of
everybody
As stated earlier, many progressive changes have been made this year regarding
both summer and final placements. Here are some of the key reforms that we had
carried out to achieve this:
Flexibility in Placement Choices: The policy allows students to apply to

companies across different categories based on their aspirations. No firm was
made mandatory for students at IIM Sirmaur. This system encourages
students to reach their potential truly.
Leaving No One Behind: The placement committee at IIM Sirmaur had stated
very clearly that no student would be left behind in the placement process and
the committee would continue to work until every student is placed.
Transparency: In addition to monthly batch meets, the placement committee at

IIM Sirmaur announced the names of the placed students by email to the entire
batch. Ensuring information symmetry and democratisation of data.
Strong Accountability Measures: There are clear guidelines and

consequences for students who do not adhere to the process, such as those
who back out from commitments or fail to maintain necessary attendance.
These measures ensure fairness and maintain the integrity of the placement
process.
Encouragement of Continuous Engagement: IIM Sirmaur's Placement

Committee and Training and Development Cell worked tirelessly, even after
100% placements, to collect weekly learning updates from students through an
App to offer feedback and maximize their learning.

Rishikesh Das - Accenture

I am pleased to share my experience of interning with Accenture Song during my MBA
journey. Initially, I was excited, energetic, and slightly anxious, but the opportunity to work
with this esteemed organization cooled down my nerves. I am grateful to the Placement
Committee for providing me with this chance.My time at Accenture Song has been an eye-
opener, helping me understand the constant changes in the tech world and the expectations
of tech managers. It has pushed me to work on myself, be agile, and cope with ever-changing

I firmly believe that learning extends beyond the classroom and IIM Sirmaur is a place with this
extraordinary peer group and seniors who are more than friends. Our placement committee
never micro-manages students during their placement process; rather, they provide
uninterrupted assistance in every aspect and believe in each individual; this makes every
student become self-conscious and more motivated. This is how I am able to achieve an
Internship at Bajaj Finserv as a Tech PMO. Within days of joining Bajaj, I'm on a project where
we made several client visits to collect feedback/opinions. Using this data, we are improving
and developing new websites and mobile applications. I am especially grateful for my team
and manager for their guidance.
Srivatsa Yesentarao - D.E. Shaw
I entered my MBA at IIM Sirmaur with a sense of excitement and a willingness to take things
head on. During the Summer Internship Process, the supportive Placement Committee eased
the challenges by acting as the perfect bridge between the students and the industry
requirements. Despite rejections, their constant support led to my selection as an ABS Analyst
Intern at D.E. Shaw India. Here, I found meaningful work aligned with the industry,
emphasizing essential skills like Python and Financial Modeling. My experience taught me the
importance of continuous learning and clear communication, which I shared with the
Placement Committee to further enhance future placement processes.At D.E. Shaw India, I am
immersed in valuable learning opportunities and receive guidance from experienced
