To Whom It May Concern:

I am in the Navy Reserve program. <Insert your name/military info here>. Up until July 2024, I
had always coordinated and reported for my requisite monthly weekend of duty at <insert name
of the base you used to go to that is now permanently closed> without issue and as directed.
However, over the course of the past few months, some deeply personal revelations have come
to light which have in turn caused me to withdraw into myself more than I should have and
grapple with depression, anxiety, and stress which led to me not keeping on top of the duties as
aforementioned in regard to the Navy Reserve program I’m enrolled in. While I’m aware of the
fact that this is by no means any excuse for my failure to report in a timely manner, I still felt that
it was worth mentioning as a review of my service record to date will demonstrate that this is
indeed an atypical pattern of behavior where I am concerned, as I have never failed to appear
or report at any point prior throughout my duration of service thus far with the exception of the
months of August and September 2024.

In hindsight, I fully understand that the way I permitted stress factors from my personal life to
negatively impact my commitment to the USN Reserves was unacceptable. I am deeply
regretful this occurred and, although unable to turn back time and eradicate my past judgment
error, I can solemnly assure you that such a miscalculation on my part will NEVER happen
again. It is with utmost sincerity that I apologize for my mistakes; I stand ready to accept the
consequences of my poor decision so that I may once again begin to demonstrate my
commitment to all of my contractual obligations as a Reserve member & begin to move forward,
putting this entire unfortunate situation behind me as soon as it is feasibly possible to do so.

I am anxious to remedy my wrongdoings ℅ establishing direct communication with any base

commanding officer sooner rather than later in order to facilitate the process of getting myself
back on track accordingly. I work 30+ hours per week at a civilian job, but have thus far made
several attempts to contact appropriate personnel in October. Upon attempting to reach out to
<insert the name of your previous base here>, I found out that they’d permanently closed at
some point since I’d been there for my weekend in July, presenting an unexpected obstacle; I
subsequently tried reaching out to the next-closest base to my place of residence (Brownsville,
TX) via telephone as a result - no one answered, so I proceeded to leave a voicemail which has
yet to be returned.

At this point, I am unsure of what to do next so I am emailing in hopes of being able to be

pointed in the appropriate direction…or, better yet, perhaps receive a call back from someone
capable of helping me get myself squared away properly ASAP to ensure I'm signed up to
attend my future weekends of service. I would truly like to fix this matter & not prolong my
failures to do so previously for any additional time than what’s elapsed already by this point.

I can be reached at 956-356-3508 or at this email address. I greatly appreciate your time and
attention to this matter, and I am looking forward to your response eagerly so I can proceed
promptly in accordance to your instructions and/or recommendations as regards how best to go
forward from this point.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

<your USN position here> Jose Barreiro
