The 4 — Dr Dorothy Tarol, a master teacher at Special Education-Integrated School for Exceptional
Children in Iloilo City: Dr Cristina Cristobal, a special science teacher at the Phillipine Science High
School in Quezon City: Dr Ricardo Jose, a professor at the University of the Phillipines (UP) Diliman in
Quezon City: and Dr Eva Maria Cutiongco-de la Paz, a professor at UP-Manila — will be awarded in
September. Education secretary Maria Leonora Teresa Briones extended her grattitude to the 4 teachers.
“On behalf of the department of education, I salute you for your unwaverring comittment and dedication
to the noble mision of raising and nurturing life long learners,” she said
Tarol was cited for championing inclusive education through her researches that was designed to
enhance basic literacy skills of learners with hearing impairment.
Cristobal was honored for promoting Phillipine history via a method that encourage hands on experience
with the use of primary sources
Jose was honored for being the countrys’ foremost scholar on World War 2 in the Phillipines and the
Asia-Pacific.
Cutiongco-de la Paz was lauded for her prolific work on clinical genetics and shedding light on genetic
disorders.
Aside from the four teachers, the MBFI will also award three soldiers and three police officers.
Each of the awardee will receive P1 million, a golden medallion and a trophy on September 4 during
Metrobank’s 57th anniversary
