Package from Nairobi Chapel.

Our general focus this month has been on God’s love; God is love and His love towards us is
unconditional. God’s greatest expression of His love to us is that, while we were still sinners, He sent
His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins!

So far, we have looked at some of the characteristics of God’s love which include; God’s love is timeless
– it will not run out or out of date, it is unfailing, it is unconditional, it is limitless and beyond measure.
God’s love is priceless.

Last week, we focused on sharing God’s love. We saw that we are to demonstrate brotherly love to
those in faith as we are; we are to share God’s love with our enemies; with those in need and suffering,
as well as with those who are unsaved. We can also share God’s love by taking care of His creation.

This week, we conclude our study on love by looking at 1 Corinthians 13.

MONDAY:
ICEBREAKER: What would you consider as the three anchors of your life?

QUESTION: When Christ returns, what will be the greatest marker of your life?

BIBLE REFERENCE: 1 Corinthians 13:13

REFLECTION: Faith, hope and love form the basic structure on which our Christian life is founded.
Our salvation; – our everyday walk and eternal hope is embedded in and through faith. Our hope and
faith is established in God’s promise through the truth of His consistent and eternal word. Love allows
us to draw from God and share this love with everyone around us in a way that pleases God and brings
glory to His name. Love becomes the greatest of these three, (faith, hope, love) being principal and
bringing them together in a joyous fellowship. This allows us to stand even through the greatest trials
of our lives. Through the happiest of our days, we remember with hope, faith and love to be generous
with those around us. Faith, hope and love should continue to be passed on to the next generation
in an atmosphere of love which is the greatest.

PRAYER:
Oh Lord, I come to You with a grateful heart. You have given to every one of us who believe in You – faith,
hope and love. Through Your Son You have shared what it looks like to love. You have loved on us without
measure and in a way no one else ever would. My desire is to grow in my faith and to be established in
hope and to share your love as widely and generously like You would want me to. Faith is built through
hearing and reading Your word. Help me to consistently study Your word as I listen for life instructions.
I also pray for my family members whose hope is lost due to difficult circumstances around them. Help
them to look up to you for strength even when things don’t seem to change. In Jesus name I pray, amen.

TUESDAY:
ICEBREAKER: Which spiritual gift do you admire the most?

QUESTION: What do you think is the greatest spiritual gift?

BIBLE REFERENCE: 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

REFLECTION: Love is the greatest! Of all the spiritual gifts that God has given to believers, they are
nothing if they are expressed without love. A believer who moves in any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit
without love is nothing! Even in giving so generously to the poor without love the giver gains nothing.
Every believer should pursue love, because it is the greatest! Spending quality time with God who is
LOVE, produces love in our lives. This love causes us to move and bless others out of the overflow
He pours into our lives.

PRAYER:
Lord I thank you for the gift of love. I recognize that I am nothing if I use the gifts You have given me
without love. I pray and ask that You teach me how to be full of Your love, so that when I serve others
they will be touched by the overflow of Your love in my life. Forgive me for all the times I have not acted
in love and in the process hurt those around me. Today I pray for courage to make peace and do what is
right. Fill me with Your love afresh and help me to keep my intimate relationship with You well-watered.
In Jesus name, amen.

WEDNESDAY:
ICE BREAKER: How have you ever been tempted to love yourself first?

QUESTION: Which of Paul’s attributes of loving others do you struggle with and why?

BIBLE VERSES: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

REFLECTION: God is love. We, who are vessels of God and followers of Christ, are called to be
conduits of His love to those around us. When all is said and done, according to Jesus Christ, the
greatest is love; Love for God and for our neighbor. Paul encourages us to show Christ’s love through
the character qualities we possess, as well as through the practical attributes of the fruit of the Holy
Spirit. Through these, we put other people’s interests and well-being first. We seek justice for those
who are oppressed and stand on the side of what is true and right in a loving and enduring way
even when it hurts us. As we grow and mature in our faith, our character is enriched with love and
we become more Christ like. A character that demonstrates God’s Love shows that we are truly
disciples of Christ and draws others to Christ.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank you for giving me an example of how to love others, just like Christ did. Forgive me for
being selfish and falling short of extending Your love to others. I confess that I have had pride in my life
that has resulted in negative behavior. I pray for grace for those times when loving my neighbor as myself
is a challenge. I pray that with the help of the Holy Spirit, I will be truthful. Protect those I love, trust, hope
and persevere, in Jesus name, amen.

THURSDAY:
ICEBREAKER: Which story in the Bible do you know very well of Jesus demonstrating a spiritual gift?

QUESTION: What motivates you to do what you do?

BIBLE REFERENCE: 1 Corinthians 13:8-10

REFLECTION: Many aspects of the Church life will come to an end, but love will never end. Love
endures in this age with a sure expectation of better things to come in the next. Prophecies will cease,
tongues will be stilled and knowledge will pass away. These are just three of the nine spiritual gifts that
Paul points out in today’s verses. Our love for God and others will transcend this age into eternity.
Faith and hope will be satisfied when we see Jesus face to face. Love will pass to eternity where we will
see God – our maker and Jesus – our Savior. We will live and reign with Him in eternity forever. All
spiritual gifts are to operate and be administered in the Godly solution of faith, hope and love. The
greatest is love because God’s nature is love and love will pass the test of time.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord Jesus, I realize that You manifested all the gifts because You are all in all. I also realize that gifts
are distributed to every member for the edification of the body to the glory of God. All who believe have
an important part to play in Your body – the Church. I pray that each one of us will play our role to build
the church. Just like Paul was compelled by the love of God to minister to Your people, may Your love over
shadow me so that I may serve Your purpose in my generation. In Jesus name, amen.

FRIDAY:
ICEBREAKER: What do you remember about your childhood? What memories (good or bad) come
to mind?

QUESTION: How does love shape our behavior?

BIBLE REFERENCE: 1 Corinthians 11-12

REFLECTION: When a child is born, they are completely dependent on their parents and are
incapable of doing anything on their own. As they grow up, they get to understand their capabilities
and as they mature, they get to think and do things on their own. Paul writes to the Corinthian church,
reprimanding them for behaving as children with the gifts God has given them. God has gifted us in
different ways and we are called to use these gifts with love. We should not boast as children do with
their gifts but we should grow in maturity and use the gifts responsibly to build the church. We may
not fully understand the capabilities of our gifts until we get to see God face to face. Maturity in
Christ comes when we use God’s gifts with love to edify the church and glorify God.

PRAYER:
Lord, I pray that I will steward the gifts you’ve given me in honor and with excellence. Help me to always
bring You glory and honor and not to take any of it. Forgive me if there has ever been a time I took any
glory or praise from you. Help me to use the gifts You have given me with maturity of love and to grow
the church. I may not understand everything now but I look forward to understanding in full when I see
You face to face. Amen.

MEMORY VERSE FOR THE WEEK:

1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
