Past Simple/Past participle

Pronunciation of -ed
There are 3 ways of pronouncing the regular past simple/past participle ending:

If the verb (infinitive) ends in the sound /b/, /g/, /v/, /z/, /ð/, /ʒ /, /dʒ/, /l/, /r/, /m/, /n/, /ŋ / or a
vowel, you pronounce the -ed ending /d/.

e.g. robbed breathed climbed measured

closed staggered stayed
buzzed
/ʒ/ - television /dʒ/ - jump, age

If the verb ends in the sound /k/, /f/, /p/, /s/, /θ /, /ʃ/, or /tʃ/, you pronounce the -ed ending /t/.

e.g. asked missed washed

laughed watched
stopped
/k/- can, stick, speaker /ʃ/- she, station, push /tʃ/- church, watch, nature

If the verb ends in the sound /t/ or /d/, you pronounce the -ed ending /ɪd/.
