INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTING
SECOND SEMESTER, ACADEMIC YEAR 2024-2025

I. SCHOOL VISION/MISSION AND GOALS

VISION: Saint Tonis College, Inc. is a premier school committed to a life of faith, excellent learning and responsive action for the students
and community.

MISSION: The school pursues the freeing of mind and showing the way, the truth and the life.

GOALS:
1. To strengthen the youth living out high moral conduct based on christian principles;
2. To institutionalize school processes that provide opportunities for free expression of faith and as human being;
3. To protect and preserve Cordilleran culture on stewardship of God given resources;
4. To develop, nurture and uphold academic excellence;
5. To enrich educational processes in the development of skills and competencies for a decent living;
6. To enable communities to become aware and analytical of their potentials, needs and problems.

II. INSTITUTIONAL OUTCOMES:


Based on the VM of the School, a Saint Tonis College graduate should perform the following Learning Outcomes;
1. Demonstrate a mastery of acquired knowledge, skills and attitude by his meaningful and high quality of the performance of the work
he/she is engaged in;
2. Demonstrates the pride of being Filipino citizen and supportive to the efforts to build a strong Filipino nation;
3. Demonstrates his understanding on how to preserve and protect physical well-being and our environment;
4. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively by writing or speaking using culturally appropriate language;
5. Demonstrates a work ethics based on the laws of the land and Christian principles;
6. Demonstrates his emphatic solidarity with the poor and has good relationship with the community people;
7. Demonstrates excellence through scholarly research and innovative work of arts;
8. Demonstrates his love of God through his relationship with others and dedication to serve his community country and God.
III. BSIT PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
The BSIT programs prepares students to be Information Technology Professionals, be well versed on application installation, operation,
development, maintenance and administration, and familiar with hardware installation, operation and maintenance.
After finishing the BSIT program, the graduates should be able to:
1. Becoming globally competent, innovative, socially and ethically responsible computing professionals engaged in life-long learning
endeavors.
2. They are capable of contributing to the country’s national development goals.
3. Analyze complex problems, identify, and define the computing requirements needed to design an appropriate solution.
4. Identify and analyze user needs and take them into the account in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of computer-
based systems.
5. Apply knowledge through the use of current techniques, skills, tools and practices necessary for the IT Profession.
6. Assist in the creation of an effective IT project plan.
7. Communicate effectively with the computing community and with society at large about complex computing activities through
logical writing, present and clean instructions.

IV. COURSE INFORMATION:


1. Course Code: IT 100
2. Course Title : Introduction to Computing
3. Course Placement: BSIT 1, Second Semester, AY. 2024-2025
4. Course Credit: 3 credit units
5. Course Pre-requisite: NONE
6. Course Description: This course introduces the fundamental concepts of computing using both lecture and laboratory.
Topics included computer hardware and software applications how they work together. Evolution of
programming languages. Also, the number system binary, octal, and hexadecimal. In the final term
we will discuss the basics of networking and cloud computing. Laboratory includes MS word, Excel,
and PowerPoint presentation.

7. Course Requirement

Class Participation = 50%


 Quizzes, Assignments, Seat-work, Activities, Projects = 20%
 Classroom Participation = 30%

Attendance = 10%

Major Examination = 40%


Prelim/Mid-Term/Final Exam
TOTAL = 100%
COMPUTATION:

PRELIM GRADE = (Raw Score/Total Score) x 50 + 50


MIDTERM GRADE = 70% TMG + 30% Prelim Grade
FINAL GRADE = 70% TFG + 30% Midterm Grade
TOTAL = 100%

Note: FPG = Final Prelim Grade, PG = Prelim Grade, TMG = Temporary Midterm Grade, FMG = Final Midterm Grade, TMG = Temporary Final
Grade, FG = Final Grade.

INC - Incomplete (must be completed within one (1) semester only, failure to comply will result to Failing grade)

V. COURSE OBJECTIVES
Towards the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
1. Show understanding on identifying concepts, principles and basic methods of research;
2. Demonstrate skills in utilizing research process;
3. Apply research process in constructing thesis proposal;
4. Conduct Group Participatory Action Research and Rapid Rural Appraisal System;
5. Defend Thesis/Research to the Panel of examiners.

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:


KNOWLEDGE
A. Understand the basic components of a computer system and the function of each component.
B. Able to explain fundamental programming concepts and the different types of data.
C. Understand basic networking concepts, types of networks, topology and network devices.
D. Explore different types of Operating System and the use of Interfaces.
E. Knowledge on Cloud Computing.

SKILL
A. Demonstrate the ability to operate a computer system.
B. Solve simple computational problems using pseudocode or programming language.
C. Demonstrate proficiency in using common software applications.
D. Demonstrate skills in using manipulating computers and install different software.
E. Able to convert Binary to decimal and alphabets and also, differentiate Octal to Hexadecimal number system.

VALUE
A. Understand the ethical considerations in computing.
B. Gain some inspiration to computer scientist in creating programs.
C. Understand the importance of computers in daily activities.
D. Properly use the internet and browsing in web.
E. Understand the processes and procedures in computers.

VI. CLASSROOM POLICIES:


1) During the three (3) major examinations, students are not allowed to take their exams unless they have permit.
2) Students are mandated to attend their class regularly.
3) Students are advised not to be late; 15 minutes late is considered absent. On the other hand, 1-14 minutes late shall receive a reward
(Punishment) from the instructor.
4) A three (3) late admission slip is considered absent.
5) In case of absences, students are advice to secure and present admission slip/medical certificate in case of a valid and excusable absences.
6) Students are not allowed to use Cellular Phone during class hours.
7) In attending the class, students should observe the wearing of proper and complete uniforms and have a proper hair cut for men and ponytail for
women.
8) Students are advised not to bring foods or drink inside the class room.
9) A student who has five consecutive unexcused absences is deemed to be dropped from the class.
