Deans Message

Professor K. V. Bhanu Murthy Department of Commerce Delhi School of Economics

I am proud to be heading a Department that stands on such fertile soil as the Delhi School of Economics which has produced such great intellectuals and leaders. The main objective of the two professional courses Master of International Business (MIB) and Master of Human Resource and Organizational Development (MHROD), is to produce good citizens and good managers. Students should take inspiration from the environs and faculty, to carry with them in life the learnings and values that they have imbibed during their stay. As a message to the prospective recruiters I would like to say that the Department of Commerce is one of the oldest and most established Departments in the country. The rich tradition of this institution and the dynamic developments in the curriculum of the courses of our Department hold an ideal combination for producing managers who can face the challenges of the real world of business. It may be pertinent to mention that our students do not just receive the best of knowledge but also are brought up with a value-based orientation of their education. I convey my best wishes to the current batches of emerging managers of MIB & MHROD programmes. May they have a life full of challenges and yet have the most professionally satisfying careers.

Business is undergoing a constant change and opens up new challenges and opportunities for organizations. To stay in business and grow, there is need to constantly evolve, innovate, and change systems for scanning the environment effectively, come up with action plans and have people to make it work. The people need to be equipped with new knowledge, new skills, attitudes, mind sets and values. We at the Department of Commerce are passionate about developing people to meet those challenges and offer this two year full time professional programme - Master of International Business (MIB). The course was first started in the year 1995 and has grown as one of the most prestigious courses in the field of international business. The students undergo a strict admission process taking up the Common Aptitude test followed by Group Discussion and personal interviews. We always intend to offer best of knowledge and skills to our students and to provide them an environment for decision making and self growth. We try to ensure that constant interface with the industry is there and invite some of our faculty from the corporate world. Students themselves organize various activities including symposia, guest lectures, debates and quizzes, and the 'Annual Convention' to have further exposure to the complexities of the corporate world. Our aim is to empower people to be the challengers of the globalized world and our past placement records are a testimony in this direction. I am presenting before you the MIB batches of 2012 and 2013 for final and summer placements, and hope that you will be able to discover their potentials to the best of your satisfaction.

MIB Course Coordinator's Message

MHROD Course Coordinator's Message

Dr. Ajay Kr. Singh Course Coordinator MHROD Department of Commerce Delhi School of Economics

It is always a matter of great privilege and pleasure to write about MHROD as a coordinator knowing fully well about the national level filtering process of a Common Aptitude Test followed by the process of a Group Discussion and a Personal Interview through which these few chosen ones have succeeded to enter the two professional programmes being run by the Department since 1995 (MIB & MHROD ). It is also heartening to mention that the richness of experience of the alumni of MHROD is not only flowering in India but also in different parts of the world at very senior level positions including USA, UK, Australia, et al. Their continued support to the two professional programmes of the department is worth mentioning as it is great source of strength to the current batches due to the custom of mentoring of junior batches by the senior batches. Holistic development of students is the essence of philosophy being followed for these students and they are virtually managing every activity like the 'Annual Convention', symposia, workshops, guest lectures, etc. The course curriculum is very intense and the case study method along with real life projects based on empirical data make realize that behaviour can be very well quantified and HR is no longer an abstract field. The knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics are developed in the process and in two years time they get transformed to face the challenges of the globalized world. They have been groomed to possess good IQ, EQ, and SQ which is a rare combination to find in today's corporate world. After having taught these rare virtues, I think they are very well prepared to face the challenging assignments by the corporate world. I wish them all success along with fulfillment in their material and spiritual life.

It is indeed a matter of great pride to invite you to the placement program at MIB & MHROD. The time comes again for us to share with you the excitement of interacting with the best minds we have. They are nurtured by our eminent faculty and supported by our alumni and corporates. Our students continue to strengthen our brand and capabilities time and again. In the age of change, our Institute has always been keenly aware to dynamically align the curriculum to the aspirations of the industry focusing on intellectually stimulating and mutually beneficial interaction that form the basis of firm relationships that have grown and strengthened over the years. We wish to express and acknowledge our sincere gratitude towards our corporate patrons for their continued faith and trust in our Institute. I am very confident that our students will make a significant contribution to your organization. We look forward to strengthening our already existing bonds, and to forging new ones in the course of a mutually rewarding placement exercise.

Corporate Interaction
At MIB & MHROD, we value building relationships. We know that the purpose of a management institute is not just to develop graduates who are thorough with text-book wisdom, but to develop professionals who are aware of industry trends and practices and are prepared for rigorous corporate work environment. We know this is possible only by building and nurturing a long-term relationship between the corporates and our institute which can mutually profit both. The distinct relationship building activities serve their purposes in their own right. They are conducted throughout the year, some conducted weekly on a regular basis and some other which are undertaken during an educational semester. The various activities that fall under the ambit of corporate relationship building process are the following:.

Live Projects
The basic premise of learning management principles is to be able to apply them in real life situations. A live project provides our students with a platform where they can apply the principles learnt in the classrooms and provides an opportunity for on-the-job training. These projects even help to understand the pragmatic nuances of the business and help the students analyse their interest zones. These live projects happen in tandem with the classes, so the students get a first hand experience of the rigorous work culture in the corporate world and thus get moulded to do multi-tasking.

As a part of the larger SIFE International Network, SIFE DSE follows the SIFE philosophy A head for business. A heart for the world while applying business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. SIFE DSE successfully implemented its inaugural project called UDAAN last year in which our students created & launched a skills development training program for 16 students of animation program run by an NGO called ANK. Post our intervention, placements of that particular program went up by 40%. We are currently working with used book sellers & rag pickers on two ongoing projects. Social Entrepreneurship Projects at Non Government Organisations

Gurgaon Kee Awaaz

A community radio station in Gurgaon that addresses the needs of the hundreds of villages, semi-urban clusters and urban slums that fall within a 10-km radius around Udyog Vihar. The students were mentored under the able guidance of the faculty to learn about the social initiatives and how to make a business sense out of it.

Search Years
Education is an inaccessible commodity for children of under-served economic backgrounds. For the few who do reach school are unable to develop to their full potential. Constraints of time, expertise and resources, leave many Government and charity schools today straddled with gaps in the curriculum in and beyond basic academic subjects. The NGO bridges this wide gap to generate that confidence in the children to stay a top to the opportunities the nation offers.

Music Basti
The mission of Music Basti is to strengthen the voices of children-at-risk, while raising awareness also on social global issues. Music Basti believes in music for community building and personal development. The program focuses on children-at-risk and urban youth through creating participative music education programs and life-skills. Its aim is to create and promote self- confidence and creativity through interaction and sharing in and through music actively, also involving the youth and music community in consultation, creation, implementation and evaluation.
