CARDSTOCK Paper Scrap Sketches

I find that one of my most common scraps is usually paper or sticker paper waste. I like to save these gems to turn into little illustrations which I then glue into my notebooks, onto letters or envelopes. There is no real size restrictions here though I dont recomend smaller than 1x3/4in. Simply take the offcuts from your next paper project or mishap with the printer and turn those into little drawings. I usually have a ziplock or envelope full of blanks and drawn or collaged pieces to use near me. I like to draw faces so I usually take a pencil pen and draw a border just inside the papers outline and then draw the face to fit into that area (see page 6 for samples). Try triangles circles & squares also.

Use this area to hold the stencil on your page while using it.

cut out

Using larger pieces of card will allow you to design and create more intricate stencils try drawing a design with a thick felt tip marker and then cutting out the the space between the lines to create a random design.

Using scrap cardstock, paper, security envelopes and a vast amount of other items you can probably think of it one my personal favorite ways to add to my notebooks, journals & files. The best part is how simple it is, at its simplest a rectangle cut to 1in will give you a folded tab that sticks out 1/4in with 1/4in glued to either side of the page.

Using a thick sharpie to write can give you a word to cut out. How ever you will need to leave bridges of 2-3mm between areas that need to stay attached - Experiment and see what you come up with!

You can round the edges of this folded piece before gluing it with a corner punch, if you prefer that look more. cont.. pg 7

Most of all experiment and enjoy the process!

Color in black and white security envelopes to use as tabs. While the main focus of this issue is on cardstock and paper, try using other items such as felt, tape, fabric and anything else you can think of.

Creating more unique and personal tabs to suit your own wants is just as easy. draw a { on the inside of one tab end and fold the whole piece in 1/2 carefully cut both ends to make them match or if you want them to be different on each side only cut one end.

These samples are on scrap printer paper 1x3/4 in.

CARDSTOCK

Materials: -scrap cardstock (min size of 1x2 in) -craft knife & cutting mat -pencil (eraser optional) -paint & brush, pencils or markers -scrap paper to test stencil and mask

With your chosen drawing materials paint or color inside the stencil to see how your design turned out.

Carefully cut out the design with your craft knife on the cutting mat.

Method: On the scrap of card draw the outline of a fairly simple design you want to turn into a stencil. Be sure to leave enough edge space so that the stencil doesn't break on the first use.
