ABSTRACT
Home automation makes life easier by allowing people to control
appliances like lights and fans automatically. However, most current
systems need the internet, which can cause privacy issues, delays, and
problems if the internet goes down. A review of existing systems
highlights issues such as dependency on the cloud and lack of offline
functionality. This project proposes an offline home automation system
using the VC02 voice recognition module, which processes commands
locally, ensuring privacy and fast response. As a result sytem
successfully controlled 3 lights using offline voice commands without
needing the internet and also it gives us voice feedback.
INTRODUCTION
Home automation systems have gained significant popularity due to their
ability to improve convenience, security, and energy efficiency in modern
households. Traditionally, most home automation systems rely on internet
connectivity, using cloud-based platforms to control devices remotely.
Internet-dependent systems can introduce issues related to privacy,
security, and connectivity in remote areas. To address these concerns,
an alternative approach to home automation involves using *voice
recognition modules* that operate without the internet.
This project focuses on implementing a home automation system that
allows users to control household appliances and devices through
voice commands, without needing an internet connection.
The key advantage of this approach is that it offers offline control,
providing seamless operation without relying on external networks,
thus ensuring greater privacy and uninterrupted performance.
Additionally, this system is ideal for users in areas with limited or
unstable internet access. This system stores voice commands using AI
Voice Thinker website and control appliances via relays.
LITERATURE SURVEY
Here are three researchers who have worked on projects related to home automation
without using the internet and offline voice-controlled systems:
1. Hassan Farooq , Focused on the development of IoT-based home
automation systems, including those with offline control
mechanisms and local voice processing using microcontrollers like
ESP32. His research also explores the integration of low-power
devices for energy-efficient home automation.
2) lsokah et al., proposed a next-generation home
automation system that is based on voice Recognition
and that uses an Easy VR 2.0 shield in combination with
an Arduino microcontroller. The system communicates
between the hub and smart plug through a Wi-Fi module .
3) Rani et al. proposed a system that utilizes natural
language processing (NLP) and uses a mobile phone
for voice input and [Link] commands are
then sent to the Arduino, that acts as a controller
in a smart plug through Wi-Fi.
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
• Offline Voice Recognition Module_(VC-02)
• Relay Modules)
• Connecting wires
• Home applainces)
• Speaker
• USB - A to micro -USB cable
• Lights
OFFLINE VOICE RECOGNITION MODULE
Offline Voice recognition Module is apt for low power pure-
offline voice recognition, based on VC-02 module. It has up
to 150 pre-programmed commands that can be used to
control your smart appliances. It features an identification
time less than 100ms, in a compact form factor of 18mm *
17mm.
The module can communicate through the UART peripheral and
provide unique Hex Code to each recognised command
All this module needs is 5V and it's ready to recognise the commands.
A.I VOICE THINKER
--> The AI Voice Thinker website is the official tool for setting up voice
commands for the VC-02 module.
--> It allows users to record, label, and organize custom voice instructions
for offline use.
--> Once created, the command set is exported as a configuration file
and uploaded to the VC-02 module.
--> The tool ensures commands are trained accurately with proper voice
samples and keywords.
--> This process enables personalized offline voice control for any smart
device setup.
RELAY MODULE
Control of High Voltage Devices: A relay module allows
low-voltage electronics (like microcontrollers or Arduino) to
control high-voltage devices (such as motors, lights,or
appliances) by acting as an electrically controlled switch.
Functionality: The relay module typically consists of an electromagnetic
switch that opens or closes a set of contacts when energized by a control
signal. It enables automation and remote operation of various electrical
systems by triggering the relay with a digital signal from a microcontroller or
other low-power device

CONNECTIONS
INTERFACING VC-02 MODULE WITH RELAY MODULE
1) Power:
-->Connect B-cable to the VC-02 module.
2) Data Connections :
--> Connect the VCC pin of the VC-02 to the VCC pin on the Relay Module.
--> Connect the GND pin of the VC-02 to the GND on the Relay module.
--> Connect the TMS pin of the VC-02 to the IN1 pin of the Relay Module.
--> Connect the TCX pin of the VC-02 to the IN2 pin of the Relay module.
--> Connect the SCL pin of the VC-02 to the IN3 pin of the Relay module.
3) Relay to Appliance:
--> Connect the appliance's live wire to the COM (Common) terminal of the relay.
--> Connect the appliance's input power to the NO (Normally Open terminal of
the relay.
--> Neutral wire goes directly to the appliance.
RESULT & DISCUSSION
We created a home automation system that works without
the internet. It uses a relay module to control 3 lights connected to
home appliances. We used the VC-02 module along with the AI Voice
Thinker to store and process voice commands. When a command is
given, the system turns the lights ON or OFF accordingly and also it
gives us a voice feedback. This setup makes it easy to control home
lights just by using voice, even without Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Voice commands:
-->To wake up use command HI or Hey Pudding..
-->To exit use command QUIT..

FUTURE SCOPE
1. MUlti-Room voice control : Control devices across multiple rooms
or floors.
2. Sensor Integration : Combine with motion and light sensors for
smarter automation.
3. Battery Backup : Ensure system works during power cuts.
4. Offline Scheduling : Use RTC to auotmate applainces by time.
5. Energy Monitoring : Track power usage and suggest savings.
7. Bluetooth App Control : Offer offline app-based control as an
alternative to voice.
CONCLUSION
This project shows that home automation can be done
without using the internet. By using voice commands and simple
hardware, we made controlling lights easier and smarter. It is a low-
cost and efficient solution, especially useful in areas with no or poor
internet connection. In the future, more appliances can be added to
make the system even better.
