To be sure about which exam qualification you would like to add to your curriculum, we've summarized the main information below.

TOEIC The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is offered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), a nonprofit organisation and the largest American supplier of learning tests and assessments throughout the world. The TOEIC assesses a person's ability to communicate in English in a mostly business environment. TOEIC is used for recruiting and assessing English proficiency in many multi-national companies. So unlike TOEFL and IELTS, which have an academic purpose, TOIEC is aimed at proving proficiency in a work environment. TOEIC consists of two parts: Listening and Reading Comprehension. It is a 200-question multiple choice test, taking 2 hours to complete and is done manually (pen and paper). Each part will be scored between 5 and 495, giving a maximum of 990 points. You can take the test at any time of the year and being an authorised testing centre, we can apply this test for you.

The cost of a TOEIC test is in the region of US$ 100 and is valid for 2 years. The test is aimed at English users of at least Intermediate+ level. For more information about the test visit the TOIEC page on the ETS site. TOEIC SCORE BAND 10-990 Test Comparison Table TOEFL The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is also administered by the ETS and it is for academic purposes. A score is a requirement for entry into graduate and post-graduate courses at North American and Canadian universities (though many Canadian institutions now accept IELTS scores - the European equivalent). There is no pass or fail, just a score. The institution you apply to will tell you the minimum required. There are two types of test available: PBT - Paper Based Test iBT - Internet Based Test However, the iBT is by far the easiest and most effective, as well as being more widely available. as you can do this more frequently and the results are instant. The TOEFL iBT last approximately 4.5 hours and has four sections: Reading - Listening - Speaking - Writing Information on how to register for the TOEFL and the dates available in your area are available on the ETS site. Alternatively to register in Brazil, you can contact Alumni, the only certified testing centre, and they will help you. The exam costs US$ 175 and is valid for 2 years.

More information about the test can be obtained from the TOEFL page on the ETS site. TOEFL iBT SCORE BAND 0-120 Test Comparison Table IELTS The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is administered by the University of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Examination Board. IELTS is similar to the TOEFL in that its primary purpose is for entry into academic institutions. IELTS is accepted in Europe, Asia and Australia, and in many Canadian schools and colleges. There are two types of exam:

The Academic Exam - suitable if you want to enter into undergraduate or post-graduate education.

The General Exam - suitable if you are going to an English speaking country to work or to learn at undergraduate level. It is also used for immigration purposes.

The exam lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes and has four sections: Listening - Reading - Writing - Speaking You will be given a score for each section and an overall score in the form of a whole or half grade, or band. The range is 0-9 (e.g. 6.0 or 6.5). The institution you are applying to will tell you the minimum band that they require for entry. The IELTS exams are controlled and administered by the British Council. Exams can be done there or at one of the other certified locations listed. All information on the dates and testing centres as well as registration and can be obtained from British Council IELTS

The exam costs US$ 180 and is valid indefinitely but generally accepted for 2 years. More information about the content of the IELTS exam. IELTS SCORE BAND 0-9 Test Comparison Table
