School
election
ballot is
finalized
By ROBERT LINNEHAN
The Moorestown Sun
Even though the
Moorestown Township School
District elections will not be
held until November, the ballot
is now set.
The Burlington County
Clerks office released the
names of candidates for the
election, with the deadline to
file passing on Tuesday, June
5.
Three seats are up for grabs.
William Van Fossen III,
David Weinstein and Linda
Alexandroff will all see their
terms expire this year.
According to the clerks of-
fice, Weinstein is the only in-
cumbent to file for re-election,
meaning there will be at least
two new members on the
board next year.
Each seat carries a full,
three-year term. The top three
vote-getters win a seat.
Weinstein will be running
against Brandon J. Pugh,
Joseph Ruccolo, Daniella Gor-
don, Christian J. Moye, Dim-
itri Schneiberg, Sheryl Sawin
and Rebecca Hagerty
Williams.
Pugh is the youngest candi-
date looking to win a seat on
the board. He graduated from

Woman plays role in posthumous award
By ROBERT LINNEHAN
The Moorestown Sun
For one local woman, a recent
trip to Washington D.C., capped
an end to an important role in
helping a former officer in the
Polish Underground, Jan Karski,
posthumously receive a Presiden-
tial Medal of Freedom award
from President Obama.
Frances Staniszewski, 86, of
the Moorestown Estates, was
commissioned to help translate
Polish documents into English by
the Jan Karski U.S. Centennial
Campaign, which is headed by
Wanda Urbanska.
For her hard work, she was in-
vited and attended a reception to
honor Karski at the home of Pol-
ish Ambassador Robert Kupiecki
in the nations capital.
Karski, who died in 2000, was
honored posthumously with a
Presidential Medal of Freedom
on Tuesday, May 29, and was
among the first to provide eyewit-
ness accounts of the Holocaust to
the world.
The Medal of Freedom is the
nations highest civilian honor,
presented to individuals who
have made noteworthy contribu-
tions to security or national inter-
ests of the United States, to world
peace or to cultural or other sig-
nificant public or private endeav-
ors, according to a White House
press release.
Karksi worked as a courier, en-
tering the Warsaw ghetto and the
Nazi Izbica transit camp, where
he saw first-hand the atrocities
occurring under Nazi occupation,
according to the White House.
Karski later traveled to London to
meet with the Polish government-
in-exile and with British govern-
ment officials, and then traveled

in our opinion
I
ts been about two months since
Atlantic Citys new slogan was un-
veiled. So, we have to ask: Will you
Do AC? Have you Done AC? Does
the new slogan Do Anything for
You?
We like it. We think it fits with what
has to be the citys future if theres
any hope of survival: transforming it-
self into something other than a gam-
bling destination.
You may have seen some of the com-
mercials. We like those, too. They de-
emphasize the gambling aspect. We
cant remember if theres even one
shot of a slot machine in the ads.
Instead, they highlight the beach,
nightlife, food, entertainment and
more.
If you want to gamble, you have
plenty of alternatives the closest
being the lottery at the convenience
store down the street.
Want to go to a casino? Theyre all
over the place these days.
Want to vacation in a place where
there are not only all kinds of gam-
bling options, but also world-class en-
tertainment, food and accommoda-
tions, not to mention a ton of other
non-gambling things to do? Well, those
options are more limited.
And thats what AC has to become. It
has a lot of the essentials in place,
such as numerous casinos/resorts
grouped together with others only a
short drive away. All that has been
lacking is a coordinated vision and ef-
fort to have everyone pull together in a
drive to make visiting and staying in
AC a true event similar to what a
trip to Vegas is.
Think about it, those of you who
have visited Las Vegas. Theres a feel-
ing about that city. Theres an attitude.
Theres an anticipation as your vaca-
tion is about to begin.
And admit it: You do things in Vegas
you wouldnt do elsewhere. Or at least
you should.
Now the challenge is for AC to cre-
ate that same vibe so that people really
want to Do AC.
Will you Do AC?
The citys new slogan is a step in the right direction
Just do it
Atlantic Citys new slogan is a winner.
Now it will be up to the city, the casi-
nos and the tourism efforts to make
sure that Doing AC is a desirable
thing to do.

Moorestown Library thanks
book sale participants
On Saturday, June 2, the Moorestown Li-
brary held a giant book sale in coordina-
tion with the annual Moorestown Day Cel-
ebration. Thousands of books donated or
discarded were moved from the second
floor of the library to the librarys front
lawn early Saturday morning and then
packed up again late in the afternoon.
As one might imagine, an endeavor of
this nature requires a lot of strong backs
and willing hands in order for it to be suc-
cessful. The sorting of books was a weeks-
long job; hauling hundreds of boxes to the
street was a back-breaking job and remov-
ing the remaining boxes at the end of the
day was a job that necessitated an 11th-
hour call for help.
Throughout the day, the library benefit-
ed from the generosity of so many fine peo-
ple who answered its call (and Bill Van Fos-
sens repeated appeals over the loudspeak-
er). Some were new to us and many were
the usual core of Moorestonians whom
one sees so often in various roles around
town the folks who breathe life into the
simple word community.
Here, in no particular order, are the
names of those for whom we give the most
sincere thanks:
Library employee Greer Samson who
worked on her day off; Joanne Parra, Alicia
Howard, Dave Constantine Sr., Dave Con-
stantine Jr., Tim Henry, Pete Bahr, Joann
Caffery, Charles Kester, Bill Van Fossen,
David Friedman, Jeff Tait, Nancy and Greg
Newcomer, Mark Hines, Ed Armstead,
David Schill, Kevin Aberant, Tracie Gal-
braith, Marcia Renouf, Kathy Logue, Vin-
cent and Victoria Napolitano, Stacy Jordan,
Kathy Logue, Kuna Yankell, Carol Riley
(and two young ladies in blue T-shirts
whose names we neglected to get who left
the fun on Main Street to help box books).
A special thank you goes to Sandra
McGuire and Pat White for their unflinch-
ing efforts to organize, sort and make this
book sale possible. Without their dedica-
tion and hard work we would not have
been able to do this.
Hopefully no names were omitted in the
above list. Thanks to all who helped on Sat-
urday. If we forgot to name you, we never-
theless know what you did and will never
forget it.
