NEW to the BOOK SHOP
There in lies the inspiration for this book. The material presented in the book has been written to be easy to
understand with a view to aiding the reader in building their own versions of the antennas discussed. Many
different types of antenna are discussed.
The author includes a number of his own patented antenna designs. If there is one ham book you treat
yourself to this year, then this should be it.
This book was written as a reference source for some new ideas on a well known ham antenna.
The G5RV has served the needs of hams the world over for a very long time. But the reality is
the standard G5RV is NOT a small antenna with a tip-to-tip length of some 31m (or 102ft).
There in lies the inspiration for this book. The material presented in the book has been written
to be easy to understand with a view to aiding the reader in building their own versions of the
G5RV. Many different types of antenna are discussed. It explores mini-G5RV's, half-size-G5RV's,
eXtended-G5RV's. It explores the opportunity for the ham to start with the space they have
available and then build a G5RV to fit their space requirements.
Noting that the G5RV was created long before the WARC bands became available, the book also
explores WARC-specific G5RV's. The book still retains that fundamental trait of all of VK4KVK's
books - antennas for restricted spaces, where size does matter!

GPS and Amateur Radio
-- --By Walter Fields, W4WCF
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based,
radio navigation system. GPS devices have become
commonplace in consumer electronics. GPS units and GPS
technology is used in our cars, on our boats, in cell phones,
in our personal computers and PDAs. GPS has improved the
way we navigate, communicate, and move about the planet.

The ARRL Antenna Book
-- 21st Edition
All the information you need to design your own complete antenna system.
Since the first edition in September 1939, radio amateurs and professional engineers have
turned to The ARRL Antenna Book as THE source of current antenna theory and a wealth
of practical how-to construction projects. Use this book to discover even the most basic
antenna designs-- wire and loop antennas, verticals, and Yagis--and for advanced antenna
theory and applications. Many of the antennas in this edition benefit directly from advances
in sophisticated computer modeling.
This 21st edition has been extensively revised to include information you can use to build
highly optimized or specialized antennas. The book includes new content on Near Vertical
Incidence Skywave (NVIS) techniques, phased arrays, S-parameters as used in modern
vector network analyzers (VNA), Beverage receiving antennas, mobile “screwdriver”
antennas, ionospheric area-coverage maps, and much…much more.

Low Profile Amateur Radio
-- Second Edition
By Al Brogdon, W1AB
More and more ham radio operators are faced with installing equipment and antennas amid a flurry of modern day
limitations. The need to operate a low profile Amateur Radio station may be imposed by the confines of a small
home or apartment. Other hams are restricted by deeds or leases that regulate the size of the antenna they can
install.
First edition readers will find this second edition contains ALL NEW material.
Low Profile Amateur Radio, second edition, includes the information you need to operate your station under
many types of restrictive situations. Follow the easygoing discussions of Al Brogdon, W1AB, as he provides
details for many real-life examples and techniques for a variety of low profile circumstances.
Contents:
• Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions
• Low-Profile HF Antennas
• Disguised Antennas
• Indoor Antennas
• Operating Modes and Tips
• Interference
• Antenna Tuners
• Transmitter Output Power
• Low-Profile VHF/UHF Antennas
• Mobile Operating
...and more!

APRS -- Moving Hams on Radio and the Internet
-- A Guide to the Automatic Position Reporting System
by Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU
APRS is among the most popular activities using personal computers in ham radio applications. Getting started
often requires little more than a VHF radio and computer. With a portable Global Positioning System (GPS)
receiver, you have precise position information at your fingertips. Connect the GPS receiver to your APRS station,
and you can transmit your location information even as you're moving!
• Track moving objects on maps (other stations, public service
vehicles, marathon runners, etc.).
• Display weather statistics and storm warnings.
• Find a hidden transmitter or jammer.
• Access the APRS network on the Internet (even without a radio!)
In this book, you'll learn how to configure hardware and software
to make the best use of your APRS station. Software examples
include programs for Windows, Mac and Linux. Follow detailed
discussions of APRS operation and technical support. To help you
get stated, there's also a complete Glossary of Terms and a
summary of APRS software commands.
APRS -- Moving Hams on Radio and the Internet is the third APRS book written by
QST columnist and ARRL author Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU.
