INTRODUCTION
What is a Pocket PC?

A Pocket PC is a personal digital assistant (PDA).


It runs the Microsoft 'Windows Mobile Classic operating system.

The Pocket PC is a handheld device that enables users to store and retrieve e-mail, contacts, appointments & tasks.

Operating system versions


Windows CE operating system run Microsoft's Pocket PC 2000, Pocket PC 2002, Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003 SE, Windows Mobile 5.0, Windows Mobile 6, Smartphone 2002, Smartphone 2003 and many industrial devices and embedded systems.

Pocket PC 2000
Pocket PC 2000, was released on April 19, 2000, and was based on Windows CE 3.0.

It was the debut of the Windows Mobile operating system.


This initial release had multiple built-in applications such as Microsoft Reader, Pocket Internet Explorer

and Windows Media Player.

POCKET PC 2000 SCREEN

Pocket PC 2002
Pocket PC 2002 was released in October 2001. Like Pocket PC 2000, it was powered by Windows CE 3.0. Pocket PC 2002 included cell phone functionality . It had a mobile version of Microsoft Office. Microsoft added a spell checker built in it. Microsoft integrated support for Windows Media Player 8.0 into the Pocket PC 2002. Connection Manager configure the connections to the internet for Pocket PC.

Windows Mobile 2003


Windows Mobile 2003 was released on June 23, 2003, and was the first release under the Windows Mobile banner. Windows Mobile 2003 was powered by Windows CE 4.20. Communications interface were enhanced with Bluetooth device management, Which allowed for Bluetooth headset support and support for Bluetooth add-on keyboards. A pictures application with viewing, cropping, e-mail was added and improved Pocket Internet Explorer and SMS reply options for Phone Edition.

Windows Mobile 2003 SE


Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, also known as "Windows Mobile 2003 SE", was released on March 24, 2004. This upgrade allows users to switch between Portrait and Landscape modes . To make wireless internet access more secure Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support was added.

Windows Mobile 5
Windows Mobile 5.0 was released at Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded Developers Conference 2005 in Las Vegas, May 912, 2005. This version featured increased battery life due to Persistent storage capability.

A new version of Office was bundled called


"Microsoft Office Mobile" with includes PowerPoint Mobile, Excel Mobile and Word Mobile with the ability

to insert tables and graphics.


Caller ID now supports photos so a user can apply an image to each contact to show when a call is received.

Windows Mobile 6.1


Windows Mobile 6.1 was announced April 1, 2008. Several other changes such as threaded SMS, full page zooming in Internet Explorer were also added, along in this mobile version. Automatic links for telephone numbers in Tasks and Appointments, which allows for the easier click and dial of stored telephone numbers

History
iPAQ presently refers to a Pocket PC and personal digital
assistant first unveiled by Compaq in April 2000. The name was borrowed from Compaq's earlier iPAQ Desktop Personal Computers. Since Hewlett-Packard's acquisition of Compaq, the product has been marketed by HP.

HP TouchPad

History
The HP TouchPad is a tablet computer which was developed and designed by Hewlett-Packard. The HP TouchPad was announced on February 9, 2011, at the HP webOS "Think Beyond" event held at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco . The HP TouchPad was launched on July 1, 2011, in the United States; July 15 in Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany; and August 15 in Australia.

Features
The HP TouchPad is a touchscreen tablet that runs HP webOS, which has several notable features. The HP TouchPad has a 9.7 inch, 1024768 pixel, Gorilla Glass multitouch capacitive touch screen. The TouchPad uses multitasking that allows you to open multiple windows of the same program. When a browser is already open, you can create a new browser deck by hitting the Web icon on the main menu manually. While the grouped windows appear stacked in the order you opened them, rearrangement is possible by holding your finger down on one window and moving it to the desired position in the stack. CONCLUSION
mobile phones have spread faster than any other technology. The Pocket PC is an evolution from a cordless telephone. The first hand-held mobile phone was demonstrated in 1973, a handset weighing around 1 kg. It was used only within the short range but now in addition to telephony, pocket pc also support a wide variety of other services such as text messaging, MMS, email, Internet access, short-range wireless communications ( Bluetooth), business applications, gaming and photography. In future we will see many new technology in pocket pc.
