CHICAGO

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CHICAGO

It is one of the most populous cities of the United States.

Located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.

It is located in the state of Illinois.

This city is known as the City of Winds", because it is a cold


and being hit by strong winds city. It is also called "The
Second City.

It is an important industrial center.

It has a wide cultural space.

The city is divided into 77 districts or community areas.

The city of Chicago has a great cultural space as it has


several universities like the University of Chicago, Wilbur
Wright College, Roosevelt University and John Marshall Law
School.
The downtown has huge buildings among which the Sears
Tower with 110 floors. The best parks are located in the west,
on the shore of lake Michigan. The city has a diverse ethnic
neighborhoods.
Chicago is famous for the musical genres of blues and jazz, it
is also usual Hip Hop.

CLIMATE

In Chicago find four seasons of fun and beauty.


Chicago has very cold winters with temperatures reaching
-5 C although snow is not very abundant.
In the spring, Chicago is covered with flowers in all their
splendor. Temperatures begin to rise in April, usually to 10 C
to 15 C.
Chicago summers are warm, with average daytime
temperatures around 26 C to 33 C.
Chicago is beautiful in autumn, the leaves change color and
the temperatures begin to drop, it is usually the driest month.

The most important places to visit in Chicago are:


Field Museum: Important museum that houses both pieces of
paleontology and anthropology.
Adler Planetarium: The first existing planetarium in the
western area, was built in 1930.
Art Institute of Chicago is an important worldwide school.
houses large collections of Italian, Dutch, Flemish and
Spanish art.

TOURIST SITIES - MONUMENTS

Navy Pier: A long pier located on the shores of Lake Michigan,


which was built in 1916.
John Hancock Observatory: This is an impressive skyscraper
that has 344 feet high at 100 floors.

The best known theaters in Chicago are:

Broadway in Chicago.

Blue Man Group.

Steppenwolf Theatre Company.

TOURIST SITIES - PARKS

Grant Park: a large park is located in downtown Chicago and


is one of the most interesting sights of the city.
Shedd Aquarium: This is a public aquarium in the city, was
inaugurated in 1930 and inside you can find a great diversity
of marine species, species of saltwater and freshwater.

PERSONAL OPINION

The Windy City is a city of modern art, good food, comedy


and cutting edge sports fans.
There are dozens of museums and theater companies in
Chicago, so a cultural experience is not hard to find. Surely
you'll die of laughter in the theater Second City Theater, the
launch pad for many professional comedians.
