Calendars
O Calendars - Microsoft Project uses four types of calendars to determine

resource availability and how tasks themselves are scheduled:

Base calendar - A calendar used as a template on which the project


calendar, resource calendars, or task calendars are based. Three base
calendars are provided with Microsoft Project: Standard (8:00 A.M. to
5:00 P.M., with an hour off for lunch); 24-Hours; Night Shift

Project calendar The calendar used to designate the default work


schedule for all tasks in a project. Copy the base calendar that most
closely mirrors what you want, then customize the new calendar to
suit the projects needs.

Resource calendar - Microsoft Project creates individual resource


calendars based on the calendar specified for that resource within the
resource sheet. Typically this will be the project calendar. You can modify
the calendar to indicate nonworking time (such as vacations) by clicking
on the Working Time tab of the Resource Information dialog box.

O Task calendar - Tasks are scheduled based on the working times in the

project calendar. However, you can customize the working times if you
have tasks to be completed at different times, especially tasks that are
independent of resources, such as equipment that runs and completes
tasks throughout project non-working time.
