Syntax - The Object Study

Syntax is the study of sentence structure. It analyzes how words combine to form sentences. Studying syntax is important for understanding how the parts of a sentence, like the subject, predicate, object, and modifiers relate to each other and contribute to the overall meaning. The main parts of a sentence are the subject and predicate, with secondary parts including objects, attributes, and adverbial modifiers that provide additional context about actions, qualities, or circumstances.

Syntax- the object study

What is syntax?

Syntax is the study of the structure

of sentences.

Syntax analyzes how words combine to form

sentences.

Sentences are made up of smaller units, called

phrases (which in turn are made up of words).
Why should we study syntax?
We speak in sentences not in words. To understand the
structure of a language it is necessary to study the
structure of sentences.

If we learn to analyze the structure of sentences, we will

also learn to analyze their meaning.

The study of syntax is the study of the function of

words, which is necessary to understand the structure
and the meaning of a language.

Main parts:
Subject
Predicate

Secondary parts

The principal part of the sentence that
expresses an action, state or quality of a
person, thing or phenomenon denoted by
the subject. It agrees with the subject in
number and person.

something (the doer of the action,
the entity described, etc.)
The attribute

any substantivized word, and characterizing the

an object that completes the verb's
