last for about 2 to 8 years

2. Catagen: catagen phase lasts for 4 to

6 weeks

3. Telogen phase lasts for 2 to 3 months

What is Tellogen Effluvium?
• First described by Kligman in 1961
• Rrefers to the shedding of club
(telogen) hair in disease states of
the folicle
• Telogen Effluvium (TE): Nonscarring
alopecia, increase the shedding
of telogen club hairs,
non inflammatory disease
Etiology

Premature
Shedding of
Triger factor termination of the
telogen club hairs
anagen phase
Classification: due to duration of the disease

Acute Telogen Effluvium

•Less than 6 months

Chronic Telogen Effluvium

•> 6 months, 40-45 age of life
Classification
Headington, based on
2 patomechanism and hair cycle:
Anagen 1. Immediate anagen release
5
3

1 2. Delayed anagen release

3. Immediate telogen release

Telogen Katagen 4. Delayed telogen release

4
5. Short anagen phase
Diagnosis
Anamnesis: stress, major surgery, post-partum, stress,
drugs, menstruation cycle, acne

Examination: „bag sign“, decrease densitas hair

escpecially in temporal

Laboratory, Hair pull test, hair pluck/trichogram,

microscopic.
Hair Pull test

Normal condition: 2-6 hairs obtained

Differential Diagnosis
•Alopecia Aerata
•Anagen Effluvium
•Androgenetik Alopesia
•Syphilis
•trichotilomania
Treatment

Eliminate the triger factor

Feritrin 70ng/mL

Monoxidil solution 2% or 5%
Prognosis
• Having a good prognosis to acute tellogen effluvium.
• Mortalitiy due to telogen effluvium has never been reported.
