Hydrostatic Transmission

Contents
• What is hydrostaic transmission
• Advantages of hydrostatic transmission
• Limitations of hydrostatic transmission
• Market trend for HST
• Layout with HST
• Tractive effort diagram (calculations from pump/motor
performance)
• Hydraulic circuit diagram
Advantages of HST
• Precise speeds for every operation
• Infinite no. of speeds
• Creeper speeds at fraction of miles per hour
• Simplicity of control
• High work efficiency
Limitations of HST
• Low efficiency as compared to mechanical
transmission.
• Size of the pump and motor required will be
huge if range needs to be eliminated.
• High noise levels
What is HST
• A HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION CONSISTS OF
1) HYDRAULIC PUMP
2) HYDRAULIC MOTOR

• TO CONTROL THE PUMP AND MOTOR DISPLACEMENT A SWASH

PLATE IS USED.
• SWASH PLATE MOVEMENT IS CONNECTED TO PEDAL MOVEMENT
• VARYING THE SWASH PLATE ANGLE CHANGES THE TORQUE
OUTPUT FROM THE MOTOR
HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION

For compact tractors

Key Benefit to customer:

• Infinite number of speed range and hence

better utilization of engine power.
• Optimum speed for every operation
intended.
• Dampens drive line vibrations.
• Single pedal operation hence comfortable to
operate.

Description:

 Hydraulic pump and motor is coupled to HYDROSTATIC TRANSMISSION WITH

the range gear box. RANGE GEARS.
 Infinite speed in each range is achieved by
varying swash plate angle through foot pedal.
