Two Types of Support Services

The SPED Teachers can implement only the
screening and informal assessment so that the child
can be enrolled in the program as early as possible,
referral services are solicited from:
1. Clinical Psychologist/Psychometrician – for
psychological testing
2. Physician – for a general check-up of all children
especially the Developmental Pediatrician
3. Speech & Language Pathologist – for all
children with speech and language problem
4. Physical Therapist and Occupational Therapist
– for all children with physical and mobility problem

efficiently.
For Blind students:
Braille kit, computer with voice synthesizer,
embossed materials, manipulative
materials, talking books, tape recorder
For Low vision students:
Large print books and worksheets,
magnifying glass, Grade I lined pad papers
For Deaf students:
Individual hearing aid, sign language book,
speech kit, wall mirror, speech trainer
For students with intellectual and
learning disabilities:
Teachers’ made materials specific to the
needs of the students
For students with physical disabilities:
Mobility devices such as wheel chair, braces
and splints; adjustable desk, table and chair
Early intervention services are a range of targeted services to
help young children who have developmental delays or specific health
conditions. Different types of specialists work with these kids. Providing
services early helps children catch up and increases their chances for
success in school and life overall.

Early intervention services usually last up to age 3. But that


doesn’t mean you’re suddenly on your own when your child turns 3. It will
extend early intervention services beyond your child’s third birthday if
needed.

The program generally aims to develop
career awareness and work skills through school-
to-work transition among children. It envisions the
full participation, empowerment and productivity
among children with special needs.
1. Special Education Center – is a service
delivery system which operates on the
“school within a school” concept. The SPED
teachers manage self-contained class,
mainstreaming, tutorial and mentoring
resource room services, assessment,
parent education, guidance and counselling,
and advocacy programs.
2. Special Class / Self-contained Class
It is composed of pupils with the same
exceptionality or level.
3. Special Day School
Serves one or more types of
disabilities. Aside from SPED teachers, a
comprehensive array of services such as
medical and psychological services.
4. Residential School
It provides both special education and
dormitory services for its students.
The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) is the
national government agency mandated to formulate
policies and coordinate the activities of all agencies,
whether public or private, concerning disability issues and
concerns. As such, the NCDA is the lead agency tasked to
steer the course of program development for persons with
disabilities and the delivery of services to the sector.
