August 14, 1595 – Pope Clement VIII
issued a brief raising the diocese of
Manila to the rank of an Archdiocese. Three new dioceses were established: the Dioceses of Nueva Caceres, Nueva Segovia, and Cebu or Holy Name of Jesus. In 1910, Pope Pius X executed the Bull, Quae Mari Sinico establishing four new dioceses in the Philippines. Fr. Ulrich Arcand, MEP – the one who got the Oblates to come to the Philippines Frs. Mongeau, Bolduc, Beaudoin, and Arcand set out on the final leg of their missionary journey to Jolo and Cotabato. Bishop Luis del Rosario, S.J. - when the boat pulled into the harbor of Zamboanga, he was there to welcome the first batch of OMI missionaries. The Bishop briefed the new arrivals about Jolo and Cotabato. Bishop del Rosario installed Fr. Bolduc as Pastor. Fr. Bolduc – first Oblate Parish Priest in the country and in the Oblates mission. Fr. Dion – appointed as assistant Pastor. Fr. Billman – was given a wandering assignment. In Cotabato – Frs. Mongeau, Beaudoin and Bishop del Rosario were welcomed by Fr. Jose Lim. Christian settlers from Luzon and the Visayas were beginning to be resettled in a yet “primitive” land, though rich in promises. 1940 – Frs. Baynes, Gordon, Laquerre, Quinn, Sheehan, Drone, and Bro. Braun came to beef up the original seven pioneers. December 1941 – eleven other missioners were received from the U.S. Frs. Burke, McMahon, Sullivan, and Clancy arrived in 1941.
