What is Digital Citizenship?
● Definition: The quality of habits, actions, and
consumption patterns that impact the ecology of digital
content and communities.

● Examples of Digital Citizenship: Communicating with


respect, respecting others privacy, seeing things from
another perspective, adding helpful information/context
to a discussion or wiki page, supporting others by
offering useful feedback, encouraging them, or sharing
work they’re proud of, etc.

Digital Identity
● What is it?
○ How you are presented online
○ Determined by the online activity
● Your identity is based off:
○ Of what you post, what you are tagged in, public comments, and many other things of that
nature
● Can’t those things just be deleted?
○ Yes they can be, but that doesn't take care of the problem
○ Just because you delete something, doesn't mean people haven’t already seen it and sent it to
others
○ Everything on the internet is permanent, regardless of privacy settings and deleting things
posted.
Positive, Safe, & Legal Behaviors
● Positive Behaviors - includes interactions that
portray the way you want to be seen and
healthy interactions, such as moderating your
time online.
● Safe Behaviors - interactions that keep you
out of harm's way, such as knowing who you
are talking to online.
● Legal Behaviors - interactions that are
mindful of the law, such as copyright laws.

Respecting others’ work
THINGS TO DO

● Site your source


○ Quoting your work and where it came from
● Gain permission if necessary
○ If the work is copyrighted, you must ask permission to use the resource.
● Restate in your own words
○ Even if you don’t copy word for word, still state your source in a reference page.
○ Plagiarize- calling someone else’s work your own
Personal Data & Security
● Personal Data - includes phone
numbers, addresses, passwords, and
any other personal information.
● Security - using privacy settings on
social media, using passwords, and
reading privacy policies from websites
and apps.

Never share personal data online, and


always make sure you keep your online
presence secure by using security steps.
