“THE POWERS OF MIND”

At the end of the discussion, you will be able to:

*discuss that understanding the left and right brain functions

may help in in improving one’s learning,
*explore mind-mapping techniques suited to right brain – or left
brain-dominant thinking styles, and
*make a plan to improve learning using both left and right brain
development.
WHAT ARE THE THREE PARTS OF THE
BRAIN?
LATERAL THINKING PUZZLE
• You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy
night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see three people
waiting for the bus:
1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die
2. An old friend who once saved your life
3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about
Knowing that there can be only one passenger in your car,
whom would you choose?

The functions of the brain stem, the oldest part of the

brain, are essential to maintaining life:
●Breathing
●Heart rate and blood pressure
●Digestion
●Body temperature

HOW TO MAKE A MIND MAP
• Turn the page on its side (landscape). Use plain paper.
• Draw the central image using different colors. The
central image should encapsulate the subject of the
map.
• Add the branches representing the subject’s main
topics or themes using key words or images.
• Add detail with more key words and images. Use color.
• Print/write the words clearly
• Use arrows to connect linked ideas.
