Geography Social Science Disciplines HISTORY The discipline that studies the chronological record of events (as affecting a nation or people), based on a critical examination of source materials and usually presenting an explanation of their causes. ANTROPHOLOGY The science of humanity, which studies human beings in aspects ranging from the biology and evolutionary history of Homo sapiens to the features of society and culture that decisively distinguish humans from other animal species. GEOGRAPHY The study of the diverse environments, places, and spaces of Earth’s surface and their interactions. It seeks to answer the questions of why things are as they are, where they are. LINGUISTICS The scientific study of language ECONOMICS Seeks to analyze and describe the production, distribution, and consumption of wealth. PSYCH OLOGY Scientific discipline that studies mental states and processes and behavior in humans and other animals. SOCIOLOGY Studies human societies, their interactions, and the processes that preserve and change them. POLITICAL SCIENCE The systematic study of governance by the application of empirical and generally scientific methods of analysis. Examines the state and its organs and institutions. DEMOGRAPHY Statistical study of human populations, especially with reference to size and density, distribution, and vital statistics (births, marriages, deaths, etc.).
