Songwriting 101:

How to Write an Instant Pop Hit!

I will be able to...
… Write and perform a short four chord song.

… Understand the chord progression in numbers and name.

… Understand musical form (i.e. Song Structure)

… Use a simple A-B rhyme structure to create catchy lyrics.

What comes first?
Music or Lyrics?

What’s the song about?

What’s the tone of the piece? Slow or fast? Happy or sad?
