As mandated by Republic Act 1425, this course covers the life and works of the country’s national hero, José
Rizal. This is an in-depth study of the social, economic, and political conditions of the Philippines during the
19th century as reflected in the life and works of Rizal. The life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal along with the
other reformists and forerunners of liberal idealism, the importance of their contributions to the aspiration
of true and patriotic nationalism and its implications to the contemporary events that are shaping the destiny
of the Philippines as a nation.
