Automatic Street Light Control System Using IOTppt

The document discusses an automatic street light control system using IoT. It consists of an Arduino, IR sensor, LEDs, LDR, and connecting wires. The system works by using the IR sensor to detect objects, then the Arduino processes this sensor data and turns the LED street lights on or off accordingly. This automatic control allows for energy savings over conventional manual switching of street lights.

Internet of Things
IOT
The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of
interrelated computing devices, mechanical and
digital machines, objects, animals or people that
are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and
the ability to transfer data over a network without
requiring human-to-human or human-to-
computer interaction.
HISTORY OF IOT
  The idea was often called “embedded
internet” or “pervasive computing”.
 The actual term “Internet of Things” was

coined by Kevin Ashton in 1999 during his

work at Procter & Gamble.
 Ashton who was working in supply chain

optimization, wanted to attract senior

management's attention to a new exciting
technology called RFID (Radio Frequency
identification).
HOW IOT WORKS?

An IoT system consists of sensors/devices which

“talk” to the cloud through some kind of connectivity.
Once the data gets to the cloud, software processes it
and then might decide to perform an action, such as
sending an alert or automatically adjusting the
sensors/devices without the need for the user.
Applications of IOT

 Smart Home
 Wearables

 Smart City

 Smart Grids

 Industrial Internet

 Connected Car

 Smart Retail

 Smart Farming

 Smart Supply Chain

AUTOMATIC STREET LIGHT SYSTEM

Automatic street light control is used to

control the street lights(Turn on and off
based on the object). Here we make use of
LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) and
LED(Light Emitting diode) and Arduino.
Components of Automatic
street light system
Arduino Uno
ir sensor
10mm LEDs
LDR
connecting wire
Bread board
Arduino Uno
 The Arduino Uno R3 is a
microcontroller board based on
a removable, dual-inline-
package (DIP) ATmega328
AVR microcontroller. It has 20
digital input/output pins (of
which 6 can be used as PWM
outputs and 6 can be used as
analog inputs). Programs can
be loaded on to it from the
easy-to-use Arduino computer
program.
IR Sensor
 An infrared sensor is
an electronic
instrument that is
used to sense certain
characteristics of its
surroundings. It does
this by either
emitting or
detecting infrared ra
diation.
LED
Light Emitting Diode
A light-emitting diode (LED) is a
semiconductor light source that emits
light when current flows through it.
 Electrons in the semiconductor

recombine with electron holes,

releasing energy in the form of
photons.
Bread board
 Breadboard is a way of
constructing electronics without
having to use a soldering iron.
 Components are pushed into the

sockets on the breadboard and
then extra 'jumper' wires are used
to make connections.
LDR
 A Light Dependent
Resistor (also known
as a photoresistor
or LDR) is a device
whose resistivity is a
function of the
incident
electromagnetic
radiation. Hence, they
are light-sensitive
devices..
DISADVANTAGES OF EXISTING
SYSTEM
 Conventional manual
system uses physical
switches which are
turned ON in the
evening and OFF in the
morning
 More energy

consumption
 High expense
 More manpower
 Not effective for

changing seasons
ADVANTAGES OF PROPOSED SYSTEMS
 Automatic switching of
street lights
 Maintenance cost
reduction
 Reduction in CO₂
emission
 Reduction of light
pollution
 Wireless communication
 Energy saving
 Reduction of manpower
Applications
 Balcony
 Garden Light
 Street Lights
Stair case
Parking Lighting
Conclusion
 AUTOMATIC STREET LIGHTS is a cost
effective, practical, ecofriendly and the safest
way to save energy.
 It clearly tackles the two problems that world

is facing today, saving of energy and also

disposal of incandescent lamps, very
efficiently.
