Introduction

 The question of “Accounting as academic discipline” is of great concern

 Views might differ from person to person
 Focus on: “Is Accounting an Academic Discipline” by Joel S. Demski
The Short Answer

 Dictionary Definition of academics

 Accounting has become vocational oriented
 Curriculum is aimed at preparing for a job
 Even Ph. D. training is affected
 Innovation is close to Non –existent
 Driven by factory-like mentality
Indicators

 Conceptual framework
 Modern information science not part of curriculum
 Absence of Portfolio-of-errors theme
 Professional ties are extensive and intrusive.
State of Affairs

 Research and teaching are inseparable

 Are we being taught the best possible ideas?
 Or are we just sinking in the curriculum?
 What innovations have been done?
 Is the goal just to secure a job with the qualifications?
 These are the questions that have to be answered in order to bring the
change.
How To Break This flow?

 Innovation
 Might not come from bigger body or bigger heads
 Initiative from a small number of dedicated scholars
How do we bring innovation and
Improvement in accounting
education?
• Bringing the theme of information and technology in accounting
• Seeking better customer experience
• Seek to measure the progress trends in the financial aspects of a
business
• Remove the old guards and bring new concepts of accounting
assessments.
• Remove the homogeneity of knowledge of accounting scholars.
• Educate about the changes throughout history to encourage change for the
better.
• ‘Learn to create’, ‘learn to improve’
• Try to improve interpretability , not efficiency or accuracy
• Fulfill what the definition of accounting asks for at the very least.
CONCLUSION
 Accounting is an ever-narrowing insular vocational enterprise.

 At present, the research is largely derivative, bifurcated and far from

foundational approach.

 Intellectual contribution to academy is nil.

 There should be perfection and unrelenting vocational approach.

 Lastly “Don’t play the game, Redefine the game.
